Le attività contrassegnate da
sono invece
a pagamento e necessitano dell’acquisto di
gettoni di partecipazione. Il costo del singolo
gettone è di 4 € ed è prevista la “formula
fedeltà”: 5 gettoni a 15 €. I gettoni sono in
vendita presso l’Infopoint di via Cavour e il
Bookshop del Festival al Teatro Nuovo.
Attenzione:
I gettoni inutilizzati non verranno rimborsati.
Molte attività hanno un numero limitato di posti
per cui è consigliato recarsi in anticipo per essere
certi di accedere all’evento. L’ingresso sarà infatti
garantito in base all’ordine di arrivo. L’acquisto del
gettone non è garanzia di accesso all’evento nel
caso non ci siano più posti disponibili.
Non è possibile prenotare l’accesso alle attività,
se non diversamente specificato. Molte attività
hanno doppia location ( bello e brutto tempo). Se il tempo è incerto consultare la pagina

How can I participate? Participation in many
events is free.
Those events marked with an
require the
purchase of festival tokens.
The tokens cost €4 each and there is a
"loyalty formula" of 5 tokens for €15.
Tokens are on sale at the Infopoint on Via
Cavour and at the Festival Bookshop of the
Teatro Nuovo.
Attention:
Unused tokens will not be refunded.
Many events have a limited number of places so
we recommend going early to ensure access to
the event. Entrance will be granted in order of
arrival. Possession of tokens does not guarantee
access to the event if there are no more seats
available.
It is not possible to reserve access to activities
unless otherwise specified. Many activities have
a dual location to accommodate changes in
the weather (
). If the weather is uncertain,
consult the udine Far East Film Festival
Facebook page for live updates. All activities will
be presented in Italian if not reported otherwise.

Durante il primo week end del Festival si svolge l’ottavo
appuntamento con il Feff Market, la mostra mercato –
rigorosamente made in Asia - che raduna circa venti bancarelle
provenienti da tutta Italia. Divertitevi a frugare tra le bancarelle di
Piazza San Giacomo: potrete trovare i tipici kimono giapponesi,
bamboline Kokeshi e benaugurali Maneki Neko, fumetti e
gadgets del mondo manga, tanto cibo orientale e splendidi
servizi da tè. Tutti potranno collezionare un piccolo (o grande)
tesoro! Non perdete l’occasione di vivere l’oriente portandovi a
casa un pezzettino di Far East.
Nella settimana successiva, dal 26 aprile al 1 maggio, il mercatino
cambia veste: designer e creativi dalle idee forti, di qualità e
soprattutto innovative danno vita a Far East Market – Arte
& Design. Un’iniziativa dinamica, lunga una settimana, che
consente ai partecipanti di esporre i propri lavori e venderli al
pubblico, creando un ambiente fresco e vivace. Chiunque in città
può ammirare con i propri occhi il risultato dell’estro inventivo di
molti creativi, in una mostra mercato senza precedenti.
The first weekend of the festival will host the eighth edition of
the Far East Market which brings together about twenty stalls

eseguite da giovani donne
che, con gesti e movimenti,
interpretano storie dove il
bene e il male combattono
strenuamente. Verranno
proposte l'Hak Bao Esan Tai,
una danza tipica ballata nelle
occasioni di festività originaria
del nord-est della Thailandia,
e il Forn Ter, danza tipica del
nord della Thailandia, anch'essa
eseguita in occasione delle
festività. Nel dialetto di
Mae Hongson, provincia
settentrionale thailandese
patria di quest’ultimo ballo, ter
significa “ombrello”. Seguirà
una dimostrazione di pencak e
di wushu a cura di S.S.D. Corpo
Libero.
Spettacolo ricco di
suggestioni, fatto di grazia,
amore e divertimento. Verranno
eseguite tre danze tradizionali
filippine: il Binuyugan, danza
della regione Ilokano di
Pangasinan, eseguito come
celebrazione dell’abbondanza;
il Sayaw Sa Cuyo, originario
di Palawan, capitale dell’isola
Cuyo, ballato durante la Sagra
di Sant’Agostino dell’isola.
Infine la danza nazionale

La vita trova la sua strada

con un focus sulla dimensione
fisica ed emotiva di questo
sport. Un laboratorio aperto a
chi si vuole avvicinare a questa
magica arte marziale.

the workshop will examine

Nel centro di Udine, una sfilata di costumi, abiti e trucchi ispirati
alle forme e alle pose dei protagonisti del mondo dei manga,
degli anime, del fumetto, del cinema, dei telefilm, della musica, dei
videogiochi di provenienza panasiatica.
Il Far East Cosplay Contest giunge alla sua settima edizione
sempre più forte e diventa uno dei tredici appuntamenti in Italia
del Campionato Nazionale Cosplay! Si tratta di un circuito
formato dalle più importanti manifestazioni Cosplay italiane,
volto ad eleggere il campione nazionale. Al Far East Cosplay
Contest verrà selezionato chi parteciperà alla selezione nazionale
di Lucca Comics & Games 2016.
Anche per questa edizione l’affezionata Giorgia Cosplay,
vincitrice nel 2005 del concorso internazionale World Cosplay
Summit, farà da madrina ad uno dei momenti più attesi tra gli

A parade of costumes, outfits and makeup in the center of
Udine, all inspired by the costumes and characters of the world of
Asian manga, anime, comics, movies, TV shows, music and video
games.
For this seventh edition, the Far East Cosplay Contest is bigger
than ever, and is now one of the thirteen events making up the
National Italian Cosplay Championship, a circuit made up of the
most important Italian Cosplay events, which elect the national
champion! The Far East Cosplay Contest will select the person
who will participate in the national selection at Lucca Comics &
Games 2016.
Once again, Giorgia Cosplay, winnerof theWorld Cosplay Summit
international competition in 2005 , will be the patroness of what
is one of the festival's most highly-anticipated events.

Un’intera giornata pensata per esplorare a fondo il mondo della
cultura del videogame di matrice asiatica, scoprendo sia il
passato che il futuro del gaming. Potrete rivivere in prima persona
i RetroGames, i cabinati, videogiochi e console degli anni ‘70,
‘80 e ‘90 carichi di nostalgia ed estetica poligonale. Avrete
l’occasione di cimentarvi in una selezione di Dōjin soft - giochi
indie creati da hobbisti giapponesi - e vivere l’esperienza di un
viaggio nella realtà virtuale attraverso l’Oculus Rift.
Oltre ai numerosi showcase presenti nello spazio dell’ex tipografia
Doretti, avrete l’occasione di assistere ad una lecture sui giochi
indipendenti giapponesi e lo sviluppo della subculture Dojin soft.
Verrà esplorato inoltre il tema dell’intelligenza artificiale e il suo
rapporto con cinema e videogioco.
Percorrerà trasversalmente la giornata un torneo di Mario Kart
su Wii U che decreterà il vincitore in una finalissima di piazza
San Giacomo.

A whole day dedicated to exploring the world of Asian
videogame culture and discovering both the past and the future
of gaming. Experience firsthand retrogames with the cabinets,
games and consoles of the 70s, 80s and 90s, overflowing with
nostalgia and polygons, or try your hand at a selection of Dōjin
soft - indie games made by Japanese hobbyists - and take a trip
into virtual reality with Oculus Rift.
In addition to numerous showcases, a talk will be held in the
former Doretti typography on Japanese independent games and
the development of Dojin soft subculture, which will also examine
the theme of artificial intelligence and its relationship with
cinema and video games.
A Wii U Mario Kart tournament will also be held throughout the
day, with the winner being decided in the finals at Piazza San
Giacomo.

dall’Estremo Oriente. Piazza
XX Settembre è invasa per
dieci giorni dall’atmosfera del
Far East e ospita una serie di

il pubblico alla scoperta dei
sapori del lontano est. Una
settimana fitta di appuntamenti con degustazioni,
cene, conferenze ed aperitivi.

della nostra regione e con altre associazioni che operano

particular, that from the Far
East. For ten days, Piazza XX
Settembre will be invaded
by the atmospheres of Asia
and will host a series of
activities which will allow
the public to discover the
flavours of the Far East. A
week full of events including

della cucina giapponese, ed è
il termine ufficiale per riferirsi
ad un gusto indipendente.
Durante l’incontro verrà
spiegato cos’è l’umami, con
quali ingredienti si può creare
e quanto importante sia per la
cucina giapponese, visto anche
il suo ruolo fondamentale
nel produrre il gusto di una
pietanza.
Umami is a word still unknown
to many, but since 1908 it has
been one of the five basic
tastes along with sweet,
sour, salty and bitter. It is the
signature taste of Japanese
cuisine, and is the official term
for referring to an discrete
flavour. During the talk we will
learn what umami is, what
ingredients can be used to
create it and how important
it is for Japanese cuisine,
especially given its key role in
producing the taste of a dish.

Adottando lo stesso criterio della valutazione
dei film dei festival (premio del pubblico), anche

verrà proclamato all’interno della Closing Night
del festival (30 aprile).

offers visitors and citizens of Udine a gourmet
sandwich based around a fusion of local and
Asian products.
Thanks to the involvement of Movimento
Turismo del Vino Fvg, the sandwich will be
paired with one glass of white wine and one
glass of red wine chosen from those of the
companies participating in the initiative. The
sandwich will be sold at the theatre bar, at Far
East Food (Eat & Wine) and at the Cinema
Visionario bar. Adopting the same criterion as
the film festival (an audience award), those
buying a sandwich will be given a voting slip: the
winner of the contest will be announced during
the closing night of the festival (April 30). The
2015 edition of the competition was won by
Andrea Zuccolo of Caffè Tomaso... Who will be
the black belt sandwich maker of 2016?

di decorazione dei kimono
basata sull’uso dell’amido
(itomenorioki). Stendendo
l'amido sulla linea del disegno
di base si isola la tinta,
permettendo così di dipingere
con un colore diverso vicino
ad un altro senza sbavature,
ottenendo un effetto pittorico.
La linea così creata mette in
risalto il disegno, arricchendo
la stoffa con le più svariate
fantasie. Durante il laboratorio
verrà fornito tutto l’occorrente
per realizzare il vostro disegno

Yuzen is a traditional
Japanese technique of kimono
decoration based on the use
of starch (itomenorioki). A
coating of starch isolates
the dye, allowing different
colours to be used alongside
one another without bleeding
together, producing a pictorial
effect which allows the design
to be highlighted and the
fabric to be decorated with a
range of patterns. Participants

La pittura del corpo,
conosciuta anche come
body painting, è un’arte che
consiste nel dipingere il corpo
umano a scopo ornamentale.
Anticamente, questa pittura
veniva utilizzata per scopi
religiosi o rituali e in alcuni casi
si riteneva potesse proteggere
e difendere il corpo da agenti
esterni. Le immagini dipinte
si ispireranno ad illustrazioni
orientali ed i colori con cui
la pittura del corpo verrà
eseguita saranno atossici e
non permanenti.
Body painting is an art
which involves painting the
human body for ornamental
decoration. In ancient times,
this painting was used for
religious or ritual purposes, and
in some cases it was believed
it could protect and defend
the body from the outside
world. The painted images will
take inspiration from Asian
illustration and the paints
used are non-toxic and nonpermanent.

La tecnica Bonsai, nata in Cina
e perfezionata in Giappone, è
legata a quello che gli orientali
chiamano seishi: l’arte di
dare una forma, di coltivare,
del praticare le tecniche più
svariate sempre nel rispetto
della pianta. I bonsai sono
dunque natura viva, piccoli
alberi che nonostante
le dimensioni contenute
esprimono tutta l’energia che
è racchiusa in una pianta
grande. I partecipanti a questo
laboratorio saranno guidati
dal Bonsai Club di Udine, che
è il primo club di questo tipo
fondato nel Triveneto.
The technique of Bonsai,
created in China and perfected
in Japan, is linked to what
is called seishi: the art of
giving shape, cultivating and
practicing the most diverse
techniques while always
respecting the plant. Bonsai
are therefore living nature tiny trees which, despite their
small size, harbour all the
energy of a much larger plant.
The workshop will be hosted by
the Bonsai Club of Udine, the
first club of its kind established
in Triveneto.

Lo Shodo non è soltanto
calligrafia: si tratta, prima di
tutto, di un’arte. In Giappone
è la base della pittura, le due
arti infatti sono fondate sugli
stessi principi e usano gli stessi
strumenti. Due appuntamenti:
al mattino (principianti) per
imparare le tecniche base di
quest’arte, l’uso dei pennelli, la
scrittura del proprio nome, una
parola ed una frase chiave,
dei versi ed un detto tipico.
Al pomeriggio (per chi ha già
praticato o conosce il rinsho)
verrà proposto un esercizio di
copiatura di scritture storiche
con carte di misure diversificate.

Shodo is not just calligraphy:
it is, first of all, an art. In
Japan it is the foundation of

Questa forma artistica ha
origini molto antiche: nelle
tradizionali cerimonie religiose
giapponesi è sempre stato
usuale includere corde e
legamenti non solo per
simboleggiare le connessioni
tra umano e divino, ma anche
per demarcare lo spazio ed
il tempo del Sacro. Durante
questa lezione pratica
introduttiva si esploreranno
i principi e le legature base
da comporre con il corpo
e le corde. Si consiglia un
abbigliamento comodo;
le corde verranno fornite
all’incontro.
Shibari or Kinbaku is the
Japanese art of tying up a
person with ropes. This artform
has very ancient origins:
traditional Japanese religious
ceremonies have often used
ropes and knots to symbolise
the connections between the
human and the divine, as well
as to demarcate the space
and time of what is sacred.
In this practical introductory
lesson we will explore the basic
principles, knots and ropes.

occidentale e orientale
intrattengono un fitto dialogo,
non sempre esplicito per il
pubblico. Se l'omaggio a Disney
di Tezuka o l'influenza sulle
produzioni Disney/Pixar dei
personaggi femminili ideati
da Miyazaki sono evidenti,
esistono altre corrispondenze
tra l'animazione popolare
americana e l’universo
dell'animazione giapponese.
Lo scopo dell'incontro (rivolto
a giovani e adulti) è quello di
visionare alcuni dei contributi
originali confrontandoli
con alcuni titoli più noti
dell'animazione internazionale.
Western and Eastern
animation have always enjoyed
an ongoing dialogue which
has not always been obvious
to audiences. While Tezuka'se
nod of the hat to Disney or
the influence of Miyazaki's

appear obvious, there are other
similarities between popular
American animation and the
world of Japanese animation.
The aim of the workshop

teatro d'ombre e sulla sua
origine, durante la quale
i partecipanti saranno
coinvolti attraverso una
serie di domande sulla
personale interpretazione
dell'ombra. Seguirà la lettura
drammatizzata di una fiaba
dell'Estremo Oriente e, poiché
è dall'incontro tra luci ed ombre
che scaturiscono le immagini
e le loro rappresentazioni,
si lavorerà assieme alla
realizzazione di sagome
opache e trasparenti che, una
volta finite, verranno mosse
dai partecipanti come dei veri
ombromani che ricreeranno un
bellissimo teatrino.
A brief introduction to shadow
theatre and its origins.
Participants will be drawn into
the workshop and asked to
give their own interpretations
of the shadows, after which
there will be a dramatized
reading of a fairy tale from the
Far East. As the images are
created by the encounter of
light and shadow, we will work
together on the creation of
opaque, transparent shapes
which, once finished, the
participants will manipulate
like actual shadowgraphers to
create beautiful theatre.

modo migliore per imparare?
Ovviamente provando a farla!
Oltre che scoprire le origini di
questa tecnica e capire come
funziona, i bambini potranno
sporcarsi le mani con tanti
colori, tornando a casa con una
bella stampa orientale.

La poesia è una partitura

In primavera, tra verdi foglie
e morbida erba, si possono
scoprire tanti nascondigli
e tane di animali, ma se si

natura, si troverà un luogo

segreto di un curioso spirito
del bosco... Nel laboratorio si
imparerà a realizzare un mini
set con pop-up ispirato al film
“Il mio vicino Totoro” di Hayao
Miyazaki. Sarà il momento di
costruire una tana con l'aiuto di
forbici, carta, colla e... qualche
ingrediente magico!

che favoriranno il ricircolo
energetico e il rilassamento
psico-fisico. Si consigliano abiti
comodi. Per chi ne è sprovvisto,
saranno a disposizione alcuni
tappetini per l’attività.
Nessun effetto strabiliante,
nessun salto spettacolare,
nessun gesto straordinario,
semplicemente rimanere
in “Quiete”: corpo rilassato,
respiro profondo, mente calma.
Un'occasione per sperimentare
e sentirsi come milioni di cinesi
di ogni età che al mattino si
preparano al nuovo giorno
facendo esercizi all'aperto, con
movimenti lenti e calcolati.
Non serve una preparazione
particolare, basta seguire
l'insegnante e abbandonarsi al
fluire del principio vitale.
Non necessita di
abbigliamento particolare, ma
sono preferibili abiti comodi.

will share positions, breathing
techniques and sequences
which can be used easily and
which facilitate the circulation
of energy and psycho-physical

extraordinary movements,
just being "calm": relaxed
body, deep breaths, calm
mind. An opportunity to share
an experience with millions
of Chinese of all ages who
every morning prepare for the
new day by doing outdoor
exercises with slow, calculated
movements. No special
preparation is necessary,
simply follow the teacher and
surrender to the flow of the vital

contempo un atteggiamento
non giudicante. L’incontro
è dedicato all’esplorazione
teorica dei fondamenti
neuropsicologici della
meditazione mindfulness e
terminerà con uno spazio
esperienziale dove sarà
introdotta la pratica.
The practice of mindfulness
meditation (samma sati, the

Buddhist path) involves
attempting to cultivate the
universal human attitude of
attentiveness to unfolding
experience in the "here and
now" while maintaining a
nonjudgmental attitude.

Antonio Colutta, suo fondatore,

di apparecchi e sistemi di
indagine chimica. Nel 2010,
dopo più di un secolo di
storia alle spalle, la Farmacia
ha rinnovato i propri locali,
mantenendo e valorizzando
il suo antico e prestigioso

housed in an 18th century
building in the centre of Udine.
Antonio Colutta, its founder,
developed both new and
traditional medicines, and
devoted himself to the study
and construction of systems
and equipment for chemical
investigation. In 2010, with

Il Furoshiki è un quadrato di
stoffa che, piegato ed avvolto
secondo le tecniche della
tradizione giapponese, si
trasforma in diversi modelli
di borsa per contenere e
trasportare oggetti di ogni
forma. Durante il workshop si
illustreranno i diversi metodi
di piegatura della stoffa e si
parlerà della nascita di questa
antichissima tecnica, diffusa
in Giappone fin dal XII secolo,
e ritornata in auge negli anni
recenti come alternativa
multiuso alla borsa ecologica.
Per i partecipanti: portare un
quadrato di stoffa di almeno
90cm.
The Furoshiki is a square
of cloth which, folded and
wrapped according to the
techniques of Japanese
tradition, is transformed
into various types of bag for
containing and transporting
objects of all shapes and
sizes. During the workshop
we will illustrate the different
methods of folding the fabric
and will discuss the birth of
this ancient technique, which
has been widespread in Japan
since the twelfth century and
has come back into vogue in
recent years as an alternative
to the multi-purpose
ecological bag. Participants

è continuata fino ad oggi. Poco
conosciuta in Occidente, è tra
le arti giapponesi più diffuse e
rappresentative della cultura di
quel Paese: la sua ritualità e la
sua grazia, unite all’intrinseco
valore spirituale, hanno
ormai iniziato ad affascinare
anche gli occidentali. Il
rituale verrà eseguito dalla
maestra giapponese Senyo
Yoko Machida, affiancata
dal professore Aldo Tollini,
che approfondirà la storia e
le caratteristiche di questa
cerimonia. Seguirà un
intervento musicale degli
studenti del Conservatorio.

Little known in the West, it is
among the most widespread

Durante il laboratorio verrà
realizzato un volume rilegato
con la tecnica yotsume toji,
la rilegatura a quattro fori.
Utilizzata nel periodo Edo
(1603 – 1868) principalmente
per i racconti popolari e
didattici, rappresenta lo stile
più facilmente riconoscibile
della legatoria tradizionale
giapponese. Questa rilegatura
presenta una cucitura sul
dorso del quaderno attraverso
quattro fori equidistanti, con
una cucitura interna (nakatoji)
realizzata mediante l’utilizzo
di corde di carta attorcigliate
(koyori) per facilitare il
procedimento.
During the workshop we will
create a bound volume using
the yotsume toji technique of
binding with four holes. Used
in the Edo period (16031868) mainly for folk tales
and teaching texts, it is the
most easily recognizable
style of traditional Japanese
bookbinding. This binding has
a seam running along the back
of the notebook through four
equally spaced holes, with an
interior seam (nakatoji) created
by the use of twisted paper
strings (Koyori) to facilitate the
procedure.

Laboratorio di costruzione
delle Kokeshi, piccole bambole
tradizionali nipponiche senza
braccia e senza gambe che
verranno in quest’occasione
realizzate in tessuto, anziché
in legno come quelle originali,
dando così spazio alla
creatività. Nel loro paese
d’origine vengono regalate
a persone molto speciali o
acquistate come souvenir
dai turisti. Oltre ad ornare le
case giapponesi, sono simbolo
di buon auspicio contro la
cattiva sorte e considerate un
raffinato oggetto da collezione.
Il termine Qi Gong si riferisce
a una serie di pratiche e di
esercizi collegati alla medicina
tradizionale cinese ed in
parte alle arti marziali che
prevedono la meditazione, il
controllo della respirazione
e particolari movimenti di
esercizio fisico per giungere
al riequilibrio dell’organismo.
Durante il laboratorio verranno
illustrate la teoria e la pratica
delle tecniche cinesi esoteriche
di lunga vita. I partecipanti
potranno provare gli effetti
del Qi Gong e cimentarsi essi
stessi nelle tecniche base
di sviluppo e percezione del
Qi. Seguirà un intervento
musicale degli studenti del
Conservatorio.

on this occasion will be made
with fabric, rather than the
wood usually used, permitting
more creativity. In their country
of origin they are given to
special people or purchased
as souvenirs by tourists. In
addition to adorning Japanese
houses, they are considered
good luck charms and refined
collector's items.
The term Qi Gong refers
to a set of practices and
exercises related to traditional
Chinese medicine and,
in part, to martial arts,
which involve meditation,
controlled breathing and
specific exercises to achieve
equilibrium in the body. During
the workshop, the theory and
practice of esoteric Chinese
techniques for a long life will
be examined, and participants
will experience the effects
of Qi Gong and learn about
the technical basis for the
development and perception of
the Qi. A musical interlude by
the Conservatorio’s students
shall follow.

Ventinove aprile duemilasedici: una serata unica
- one night, one shot - all’insegna della musica
d’eccellenza proveniente dall’Estremo Oriente.
Il palco della Far East Night, quest’anno ospitato
al padiglione 9 della Fiera di Udine, punterà
i suoi riflettori su Satoshi Tomiie, pioniere
indiscusso della musica house.
Nato in Giappone, ma con base a New
York e Parigi, Satoshi è attivo già dagli anni
‘80, quando esordisce con “Tears”, traccia
fondamentale del genere house concepito
assieme alla leggenda Frankie Knuckles.
Ancora oggi è un DJ, remixer e produttore molto
attivo che ha da poco lanciato un nuovo album
e una nuova etichetta. Nella sua acclamata
e straordinaria carriera, Satoshi ha posto le
pietre miliari di artisti del calibro di Robert
Owens, ha stampato su etichette leggendarie

Twenty-ninth april twentysixteen: a single
evening - one night, one shot - dedicated to Far
Eastern excellence music.
The Far East Night stage, located this year in
pavillion 9 of Fiera di Udine, will turn up the
lights on Satoshi Tomiie, undiscussed pioneer of
house music.
Born in Japan, based in New York and Paris,
Satoshi drives forces since the late 80s, when
he debuted with “Tears”, essential track of the
house genre, conceived with the legend Frankie
Knuckles.
DJ, producer and remixer is as active as ever
as he launches a new label and album. In his
acclaimed and extraordinary career, Satoshi
has set the corner stone of careers of artists
like Robert Owens, recorded for labels like
Strictly Rhythm & FFRR, mixed the Renaissance
compilations and played in every major club and
festival around the globe.

VIAGGIO A TOKYO

Viaggio a Tokyo è un progetto sviluppato per
Far East Film Festival attorno alla graphic novel
di Vincenzo Filosa, fumettista e traduttore dal
giapponese.
Viaggio a Tokyo narra il viaggio di un
occidentale un po’ sprovveduto nella capitale
del Giappone. Un’avventura allucinata sulle
orme dei grandi autori gekiga Tsuge Tadao e
suo fratello Yoshiharu. Un omaggio agli eroi
del manga. Viaggio a Tokyo è uno sguardo
inedito e personale sulla grande città, un diario
sgangherato alla ricerca di un senso per una
vita di rese e sconfitte. Un racconto onirico
e grottesco delle abitudini dei suoi abitanti
giapponesi e stranieri tra quartieri a luci rosse,
foreste dei suicidi, karaoke, manga kissaten,
love hotel, templi buddhisti e negozi di jeans.
Un viaggio e un’educazione sentimentale in
una grande metropoli e nell’immaginario del
fumetto giapponese, tra grandi icone pop e
autori meno celebrati. La mostra presenta un
centinaio di tavole originali, matite, libri gekiga
originali - fonti di ispirazione e di racconto del
libro - e il diario di viaggio dell’autore. Il progetto
nasce dalla collaborazione tra il Centro
Espressioni Cinematografiche e l’associazione
culturale di Bologna Canicola, celebre per
il proprio progetto editoriale di ricerca sul
fumetto contemporaneo.
Viaggio a Tokyo (Tokyo story) is a project
developed by the Far East Film Festival and
based around the graphic novel by Vincenzo
Filosa, cartoonist and translator from Japanese.
Trip to Tokyo recounts the journey of a naive
Westerner to the capital of Japan – a surreal
adventure in the footsteps of the great gekiga
authors Tsuge Tadao and his brother Yoshiharu.
A tribute to the heroes of manga, Viaggio a
Tokyo is a fresh, personal look at the big city - a
rickety diary in search of meaning in a life full of
compromise and defeat. A dreamlike, grotesque
story of the habits of the local and foreign
inhabitants set among the red light districts,
suicide forests, karaoke, kissaten manga, love
hotels, Buddhist temples and jeans boutiques.
A journey and a sentimental education in a big
city and in the images of Japanese comics,
where pop icons encounter less well-known
authors.
The exhibition presents one hundred original
drawings, pencils, original gekiga books – the
book’s sources of inspiration - and the author’s
diary. The project is a collaboration between
the Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche and
Bologna’s Canicola cultural association, famous
for its publishing of contemporary comics.

PARADOXA – ARTE GIAPPONESE OGGI

Cosa accade nell’arte contemporanea
giapponese oggi? Quale generazione sta
emergendo dopo il successo planetario di
maestri come Murakami o Sugimoto? Tra le
novità espositive del 2016, il Museo d’Arte
Moderna e Contemporanea di Casa Cavazzini
propone una ricognizione dell’arte giapponese
attuale, unica nel suo genere e in prima
assoluta per l’Italia. Composta da progetti
appositamente realizzati per l’occasione, la
mostra coinvolge cinque artisti, quasi tutti
alle loro prime apparizioni nel Paese. Almeno
due caratteristiche li accomunano: tutti si
sono trovati ad operare dopo la grande crisi
del 2008 e durante la fase di declino della
cultura otaku nell’arte; ciascuno di essi sovverte
il quotidiano e l’apparenza degli oggetti più
comuni attraverso manipolazioni ed effetti di
spaesamento. Manya Kato svela il paradosso
della realtà a partire dall’uso improprio di alcuni
strumenti. Yuuki Matsumura fa dell’accidente e
del difetto la cifra di conversione delle cose più
banali. Takahiro Iwasaki realizza sculture esili e
minuscole, fatte di setole, capelli, fibre finissime.
Taro Izumi trasforma in sculture astratte i
prodotti di alto design fornitigli da Calligaris.
Taturo Atzu (alias Tatzu Nishi), con il sostengo
di Illy, propone un’opera pubblica estraniante
attorno ad uno dei più prestigiosi monumenti
della Città.

What is happening in contemporary Japanese
art? What generation is emerging after the
worldwide success of artists such as Murakami
or Sugimoto? The Casa Cavazzini Museum
of Modern and Contemporary Art presents,
for the first time in Italy, a unique overview
of current Japanese art. Made up of projects
created specifically for the occasion, the
exhibition involves five artists, almost all
appearing in the country for the first time,
and who all share at least two characteristics:
they are all working after the great crisis
of 2008 and during the decline of otaku
culture in art, and each of them subverts the
commonplace and the appearance of everyday
objects through manipulations and effects of
displacement. Manya Kato reveals the paradox
of reality through the improper use of certain
instruments, Yuuki Matsumura turns accident
and defect into a transformation of the most
trivial things, Takahiro Iwasaki produces tiny,
fragile sculptures made of bristles, hair and
fine fibres, Taro Izumi turns the high-end
design products provided him by Calligaris
into abstract sculptures and Taturo Atzu (aka
Tatzu Nishi), with the support of Illy, presents an
alienating piece of public art around one of the
city’s most prestigious monuments.

soggetti fotografici ispirati
alla natura, alla creazione, al
corpo femminile restituiscono
a chi osserva, l’impressione
di trovarsi di fronte a lavori
pittorici orientali, di alta
ricercatezza. Zeno Chen,
infatti, attraverso più livelli
di rielaborazione dà vita a
scatti ibridi che cristallizzano
gli istanti di comprensione
della creazione e che
comunicano la potenza della
natura. La mostra presenta
durante il giorno sedici opere,
arricchendosi la sera con
l’esposizione di fotografie
uniche al mondo legate alla
bellezza femminile.
The exhibition The power and
Grace, hosts 20 photographs
by Taiwanese artist Zeno Chen.
Their subjects - inspired by
nature, creation and the female
body – give the viewer the
impression of looking at highly
sophisticated Asian painting.
Through multiple levels of
reprocessing, in fact, Zeno
Chen creates hybrid pictures
which crystallise moments of
the understanding of creation
and communicate the power
of nature. During the day, the
exhibition contains sixteen
pieces, to which a unique set
of photos inspired by feminine
beauty are added in the
evening.
