… let’s talk about it!
“ORTO PER MILLE”
PROJECT
In the school years 2009-2010, the
students of our school took part in the
“orto per mille” project.
They grew a typical vegetable for each
italian region in a kitchen-garden (42
m2) near the school.
The purpose of this project was to teach
the students how to grow vegetables
and to make them learn their features.
The grown vegetables were given to the
local canteens (schools, hospital,
retirement homes…).
First we
had to pull
out the
weeds…
...then dig
the soil in
order to
make it
fertile…
...cultivate and finally collect the
vegetables.
The “Orto per Mille” project was
born in the spring of 2010, and was
linked to“Orto in Condotta” and
“Edible school Gardens of Slow
Food”.
This project represents a
new way to teach the
value of biodiversity and
respect for the
environment .
It is also growing in other
countries, for example
Uganda.
For the 150° anniversary of the Italian unification the
students decided to call it “Orto per Mille”, to remember
the “mille”( the one thousand men) of Garibaldi , a hero
of our history.

“CIELO APERTO” PROJECT
Every school year the students of one
of the 5th classes of our school take
part in the “cielo aperto” project.
The purpose of this project is
to give the students the
possibility to have some basic
konwledge of astronomy,
thanks to theoretical lessons
and live observations of
astronomical events and
celestial bodies.
They also have the possibility to
meet experts in astrophysics.
The project includes a visit
to the Planetary of Milan
and to the Brera observatory.
