Poi lo fece uscir fuori e gli
disse: «Guarda in cielo e
conta le stelle, se le puoi
contare»; e soggiunse: «Tale
sarà la tua discendenza». Egli
credette al Signore che glielo
accreditò a giustizia. E gli
disse: «Io sono il Signore che
ti ho fatto uscire da Ur dei
Caldei, per darti questo paese
in possesso». (Gen 15, 5-7)
Then Yahweh brought
him outside and said
to him, "Look up at
the sky and count the
stars if you can. Your
descendants will be
like that." Abram
believed Yahweh who,
because of this, held
him to be an upright
man. And he said, "I
am Yahweh who
brought you from Ur
of the Chaldeans to
give you this land as
your possession."
(Gen 15, 5-7)
Rispose: «Signore mio Dio, come potrò conoscere che ne avrò il possesso?».Gli disse:
«Prendi una giovenca di tre anni, una capra di tre anni, un ariete di tre anni, una tortora
e un pulcino di uccello». Andò a prendere tutti questi animali, spaccandoli in pezzi, e ne
pose un pezzo dinanzi all'altro; non divise però gli uccelli. Subito l'uccello rapace calò sui
pezzi, ma Abram lo scacciò. (Gen 15, 8-11)
Then Abram asked, "My Lord, how am I to know that it shall be mine?" Yahweh replied,
"Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtle
dove and a young pigeon." Abram brought all these animals, cut them in two, and laid
each half facing its other half, but he did not cut the birds in half. The birds of prey came
down upon them, but Abram drove them away. (Gen 15, 8-11)

dreadful darkness
took hold of him.

smoking firepot and

Yahweh made a
covenant with
Abram, saying, "To
your descendants I
have given this
country from the
river of Egypt to the
Great River, the
Euphrates.

Imitate me, fratelli,

Lettera ai Filippesi – Philippians’ Letter
Unite in imitating me, brothers and sisters, and look at those who walk in our way of life.
For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. I have said it to you many times, and
now I repeat it with tears: they are heading for ruin; their belly is their god and they feel
proud of what should be their shame. They only think of earthly things. (Phil 3, 17-19)
Noi però siamo cittadini del cielo, da dove attendiamo anche, come
salvatore, il Signore Gesù Cristo, che trasformerà il nostro misero
corpo per uniformarlo al suo corpo glorioso, in virtù del potere che
ha di sottomettere a sé tutto l'universo. Pertanto, miei fratelli
diletti e desiderati, mio gaudio e mia corona, perseverate così nel

For us, our citizenship is in heaven, from where we await the coming of our Savior, Jesus
Christ, the Lord. He will transfigure our lowly body, making it like his own body, radiant
in Glory, through the power which is his to submit everything to himself. Therefore, my
brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, you my glory and crown, be steadfast in
the Lord. (Phil 3, 20-21 ; 4, 1)

In quel tempo, Gesù
prese con sé Pietro,
Giovanni e Giacomo e
salì sul monte per
pregare. Mentre

Mosè ed Elia, apparsi
nella loro gloria, e

Jesus had said all this, he
took Peter, John and
James and went up the
mountain to pray. And
while he was praying,
the aspect of his face
was changed and his
clothing became dazzling
white. Two men were
talking with Jesus:
Moses and Elijah. They
had just appeared in
heavenly glory and
were telling him about
his departure that
had to take
place in Jerusalem.

Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno, ma restarono svegli e videro la sua
gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui. Mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro
disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bello per noi stare qui. Faremo tre tende, una per te, una
per Mosè e una per Elia». Ma non sapeva quello che diceva. (Lc 9, 32-33)
Peter and his companions had fallen asleep, but they awoke suddenly and saw
Jesus' Glory and the two men standing with him. As Moses and Elijah were
about to leave, Peter said to him, "Master, how good it is for us to be here for
we can make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." For
Peter didn't know what to say. (Lk 9, 32-33)
E mentre diceva queste cose, venne una nube e li coprì. Ebbero paura, quando
entrarono nella nube. Allora dalla nube uscì una voce che diceva: «Questi è il mio
Figlio, l'eletto, ascoltatelo!». Appena la voce cessò, Gesù restò solo. Essi tacquero e
in quei giorni non raccontarono niente a nessuno di quello che avevano visto.

LA TRASFIGURAZIONE DI GESU’
La Trasfigurazione è un’anticipazione della Risurrezione di Gesù, VERO
Figlio di Dio. Anche noi risorgeremo, come ci ha promesso Gesù, per
questo, affidandoci completamente a Dio e al suo aiuto spirituale, saremo
capaci di trasformare la nostra vita per metterla al servizio dei fratelli più
bisognosi.
Il padre della fede, Abramo, ci rivela il senso dell’alleanza e dell’amore di
Dio; questa consapevolezza di un Dio”vicino” ci aiuta a superare il
pessimismo e ci sprona ad essere testimoni vivi del Risorto.

JESUS’ TRANSFIGURATION
Jesus’ Transfiguration is an anticipation of His Resurrection, REALLY God’
son. Jesus promised us our own resurrection, and because of it we have to
entrust our lives completely to God and His spiritual help so that we can
change it and serve our more needy brothers and sisters.
Abraham, our faith’s Father, reveals to us God’s sense of allegiance and
love; having this awareness of God “being close by” will help us overcome
pessimism and urges us to be living witnesses of the Risen Christ.
