Let’s ask for someone’s name. The informal and most common way is saying Ciao. Come ti
chiami? Hello. What is your name?
The first word ciao means hello.
This is followed by come, which means how.
The last two words ti chiami, literally mean you are called.
The other person will probably answer Mi chiamo… My name is… followed by their name
He or she will then usually ask you E tu? And yours?
Now you answer Mi chiamo… My name is… followed by your name.
To ask an older person or a superior Hello. What is your name? say, Salve. Come si chiama?
Remember this is the formal phrase
You can also use other formal greetings. For example Buon giorno. Come si chiama? Or Buona
