Bales Lab University of California, Davis
Research assistant at a lab studying the neurobiology of pair-bonding in
monogamous titi monkeys (Callicebus cupreus) as well as the social and
physiological effects of chronic intranasal Oxytocin dosing on juvenile animals.
Personal research focused on measures of pair bond strength and validating a
partner preference paradigm for titi monkeys. Conducted live behavioral scoring
for this project and others through both focal animal observations and scan
sampling methods. Learned skills including pipetting of specimens, tissue
sectioning using a cryostat and freezing microtome, blood processing, PBMC
extraction, and biological sample collection. Learned sterile lab technique and
became certified to work with radiation to help run assays and autoradiography.
Research Assistant

M.I.N.D Institute
University of California, Davis
Research assistant on autism phenome project, a comprehensive look at autism
including assessment of medical history of child and family, behavioral and
cognitive test evaluations, and brain imaging in order to create subtypes of
autism spectrum disorder. Activities included behavioral test data entry and
organization, video recording of behavioral evaluations of subjects, medical
record abstractions and interacting with parents and children to obtain
data/information.
Research Assistant
March- June 2011 (Spring Quarter)
UC Davis Center for Neuroscience
Ekstrom Lab University of California, Davis
Research assistant in a cognitive psychology lab studying spatial memory using
computer generated mazes and towns in order to measure latency of arrival at
correct locations that were either novel or previously experienced. My role was
testing computer paradigms and providing feedback on them, before they were
used on subjects.
Research Assistant
March – June 2010 (Spring Quarter)
Sherman Lab University of California, Davis
Research assistant in a social psychology lab studying stereotypes and prejudices
in photo identification memory tasks. Research was done using computer studies
with college student subjects. Position involved becoming familiar with the
protocol, educating subjects in research protocol during pre-procedure
introduction, setting subjects up with the computer program and remaining in the
room to answer questions for the duration of the study.
