We are pleased to infonn you, as requiied by the ICCVAM Aqthori:zation Act, that the
U.S. Consumer Pioducf Safety Commission (Com.misSion) voted unanimotisly on August 28,
2008 to approve the recommendations ofiCCVAM that in 'Vitro basal cYtotoxicity teSt metoods
should be considered and used where appropr!.~ part ot:a weight~f-evidence approach to
estimate the starting dose·for acute· oral in 'vivo toxicity testing. Althoughthis approach can be
used to estimate the starting doses for acute oral in vivo toxicity tests, it ~ay not be used ~ a
replacement for testing ·i n 'animals or to p.reQ.ict acute or8.I toxicity for 'tlie p~se of regulatozy
