Percussion Auditions for the 2016-2017
Braswell High School Band
Thursday, May 26th 5:00 – 7:00pm
Navo Middle School Band Hall
Auditions are “come and go” and “first come, first serve”
Please be patient on this evening…Mr. Barnard and Mr. Lennox
want to hear ALL the students as we build our new program!
Your Audition Components Include:
• 2 Major Scales & the Chromatic Scale
Scales to be selected from – C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, G, D, A, E, & B
Scales will be played two octaves in the rhythm and tempo of your choosing.

Rudiments – Multiple bounce roll (p<f>p), paradiddlediddle, flam tap, 7 stroke roll (open)
Rudiments will be played open – closed – open (approx. 30 seconds); buzz roll will crescendo – decrescendo.

A 30 second cut of a snare, mallet, or timpani solo or etude of your choice.
•
This should highlight your best ability!
Sight Reading – you will have a 30 second study period.
These auditions will determine your band placement and chair placement for one of the two concert bands. The
marching band is made up of students from both concert bands. Auditions for spots for the marching band’s
contest show take place during June band camp.
Please bring a copy of your most recent Report Card!
June Camp: June 6th, 7th, and 8th
• 8AM to 4PM at Navo Middle School
• 8AM to 11AM – Outside marching / 11AM to 1PM – lunch on your own / 1PM to 4PM – Inside music
• Tuesday June 7th – Parent meeting at 6PM
For all Outside Rehearsals please remember:
• Wear a PLAIN WHITE t-shirt, athletic shorts and shoes, sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen.
• Bring a WATER JUG (1 gallon) and instrument supplies.
For all Inside Rehearsal please remember:
• Please bring a black binder with plastic page protectors, mechanical pencil, and water.
