ELIGIBILITY FOR LICENSING

Complete a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited first
professional degree in architecture.
 Applicants who do not possess a NAAB accredited first professional
degree in architecture must provide an evaluation of their education
equating it to the NAAB guidelines.
Complete 3 years of work experience under internship guidelines established by
the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
Apply through NCARB until all sections of the Architect Registration Examination
(ARE) have been passed. There is a total of 7 divisions of the ARE, and each
division cost is $210.
 Please note that effective November 1, 2016, the ARE 5.0 will be
launched. There will be a total of 6 divisions for the ARE 5.0, and each
division cost will be $210. For additional information, please visit
www.ncarb.org.
Submit an online application at www.michigan.gov/mylicense.
 Applicants must be of good moral character. The fee due at the time of the
application is $65.
*Records unavailable from a foreign country in relation to education or experience shall
be allowed upon submitting the following to the department:
(a) A notarized affidavit approved stating the total number of years of education
received, the name of the school or schools attended, the dates each school was
attended, the degree obtained, the courses taken, the grades received, and the names
of each former employer.
(b) A notarized statement approved from a governmental official testifying to the
unavailability of the necessary records.
