GUIDING YOU TO CAREER SUCCESS WHAT IS MCTI? WHO ATTENDS MCTI? Since 1944, the Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI) has provided training for adults with disabilities in Michigan. Today, MCTI is the secondlargest comprehensive rehabilitation training center in the United States, offering a unique blend of caring human support services and state-of-the-art training. Students who are 18 YEARS OF AGE or older may be referred by Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Veterans Affairs, Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, other private rehabilitation agencies, or as a private pay individual. The school is administered by Michigan Rehabilitation Services, a bureau of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the Council on Occupational Education (COE) located at 7840 Roswell Road, Building 300 Suite 325 Atlanta, GA 30350. YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR MISSION. Our Mission Statement: The Michigan Career and Technical Institute conducts vocational and technical training programs and provides the support services needed to prepare Michigan citizens with disabilities for competitive employment. STEP 1. Agency accepts student. STEP 2. Agency sends a referral to MCTI. STEP 3. Application is assessed. STEP 4. Student attends MCTI. Adults who have a physical, mental or emotional disability and are referred by Michigan Rehabilitation Services or the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons are eligible for FREE TUITION and FREE ROOM AND BOARD in the dormitory. MCTI also offers a one-week Postsecondary Education Rehabilitation Transition (PERT) program to students between the ages of 16 and 19. WHAT TYPES OF TRAINING IS OFFERED? WHAT TYPES OF SUPPORT SERVICES ARE OFFERED? MCTI offers 13 vocational training programs. Support services are also available to help each student meet his or her personal training objectives. These support services include: automotive technology cabinetmaking/millwork certified nursing assistant culinary arts custodial electronics graphic communications grounds maintenance and landscaping machine technology office automation pharmacy services retail marketing weatherization Career Assessment Services are also available to help students explore the career option that’s best for them. CAMPUS LIFE AT MCTI MCTI is located on the shore of Pine Lake in rural Barry County, 20 miles northeast of Kalamazoo. PLF is governed by a board of directors and is managed by a professional staff that works in partnership with MCTI to promote the training and placement of persons with disabilities. The PLF is licensed by the State of Michigan, Department of Attorney General, to solicit charitable contributions.
