MEECS Training Sessions – Water Quality for Grades 6-8
MEECS Training Sessions The theme for these three days of MEECS training is Human Impacts, which is part of the new Michigan Science Standards. The MEECS units presented include Air Quality (Day 1), Climate Change (Day 2), and Water Quality (Day 3). Connections between each of these units will be made throughout the workshops. Educators are encouraged to register for all three days, but individual days can be selected. The local, regional, and state-specific contexts for learning and assessment found in the MEECS units are on target for addressing the performance expectations found in the new Michigan Science Standards. The MEECS units are an ideal way to address issues directly relevant to our state, such as its unique location in the Great Lakes Basin, Michigan specific flora and fauna, and our state's rich history and expertise in scientific research and engineering' (Michigan Science Standards). For instance, for the middle school Human Impacts section, the units use Michigan examples to apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing human impact on the environment (Michigan Science Standards). Examples of some high school performance expectation outcomes relevant to MEECS are found in Human Sustainability and Earth Systems. To learn more about MEECS click here. With your registration you will receive amazing classroom materials!
