The companion proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on January 6, 2016 (81 FR 412). Unless significant adverse comments are received, the direct final rule will become effective on March 21, 2016. Determining which Structures, Systems, Components and Functions are Important to Safety; Petition for Rulemaking (PRM); Notice of Docketing and Request for Comment; 10 CFR Part 50 (PRM-50-112; NRC-2015-0213) On January 6, 2016, the NRC published a notice of docketing and request for comment in the Federal Register (81 FR 410) for a PRM from Kurt T. Schaefer, dated July 20, 2015, and supplemented on August 31, 2015. The petition was docketed by the NRC on September 4, 2015, and assigned Docket No. PRM-50-112. The petitioner requests that the NRC amend its “Domestic licensing of production and utilization facilities” regulations to define the term “important to safety,” and to provide a set of specific criteria for determining which structures, systems, components, and functions are “important to safety.” The public comment period on this petition closes on March 21, 2016.
