Meine Damen und Herren, liebe Leser,
das Festival „Meraner Frühling“ ist wie das Frühjahr selbst: belebend, inspirierend, vielfältig.
Es bietet Workshops, Performances, geführte Rundgänge und vieles mehr. Für die zweite
Auflage dieses Veranstaltungsprojekts haben Künstler aus ganz Europa ausgewählten Standorten ihre künstlerische Handschrift verliehen. Mal sind ihre Werke eindrucksvoll und können sogar betreten werden; dann wieder sind es subtile Eingriffe in die Landschaft, die einen
scharfen Blick erfordern. Serien von Kunstwerken laden ihrerseits zu ausgedehnten Spaziergängen im Freien ein. Nach einem langen Winter Balsam für Körper und Seele.
Mein Dank gebührt allen Partnern, Künstlern, Kuratoren und Mitarbeitern für ihren Beitrag
zur Umsetzung des Festivals „Meraner Frühling“. Ich wünsche Ihnen allen spannende Erkundungstouren und aufregende Entdeckungen.
Gentili signore e signori, care lettrici e cari lettori,
il festival Primavera Meranese è come la stagione che rappresenta: rigenerante, stimolante,
vario. Offre workshop, spettacoli, visite guidate e tanto altro ancora. Per la seconda edizione
del progetto, artisti provenienti da tutta Europa hanno prestato la loro creatività a più luoghi
selezionati. Alcune opere sono di impatto immediato e vi si può addirittura accedere, altre
invece si inseriscono in modo più sottile nel paesaggio, richiedendo uno sguardo più acuto.
Vi sono inoltre installazioni in successione che invitano a prolungate passeggiate all’aria
aperta. Dopo un lungo inverno, un balsamo per il corpo e per l’anima.
Rivolgo i miei ringraziamenti ai partner, agli artisti, ai curatori e ai collaboratori per il loro contributo all’organizzazione del festival. A tutti, auguro visite emozionanti ed entusiasmanti scoperte.
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Readers,
The Merano Spring Festival is like spring itself: invigorating, inspiring, multifaceted. It offers
workshops, performances, guided tours, and much more besides. For the festival’s second
edition, artists from all over Europe have lent selected locations a signature look. Some of
their artworks are awe-inspiring and can be accessed; others are subtle interventions in the
urban landscape that reveal themselves to those with a keen eye for detail. Artworks comprising series of objects, on the other hand, are best explored on extended walks. After a
long winter, an activity like balm to body and soul.
I would like to thank all the partners, artists, curators, and employees involved for their vital
contributions to the Merano Spring Festival. I wish you exciting sightseeing tours and intriguing discoveries.

Das Festival „Meraner Frühling“ ist ein Projekt der Stadtgemeinde und der Kurverwaltung Meran,
das in Zusammenarbeit mit Kunst Meran, mit der Marketinggesellschaft Meran, mit den Gärten von
Schloss Trauttmansdorff und den Gemeinden Schenna, Naturns und Dorf Tirol umgesetzt wird.
Das Projekt „Art & Nature 2016 - Walking with Senses“ wird von BAU kuratiert.

Kunst und Natur gemeinsam im Rampenlicht, als Trägerinnen einer faszinierenden Darbietung und eines reizvollen Zusammenspiels: Als Bühne dienen die Stadt Meran und die nahegelegenen Ortschaften Naturns, Schenna und Dorf Tirol, deren mildes Klima neben alpinen
auch exotische Gewächse gedeihen lässt. In dieser Frühjahrskulisse bilden das kraftvolle
Grün der Berghänge und die weiße Pracht der Apfelblüte einen reizvollen Kontrast, und das
Festival „Meraner Frühling“ erlebt seine zweite Auflage. In dem über zweimonatigen Veranstaltungszeitraum lassen sich die Wonnen des Frühlings und die Schönheit Merans gleichermaßen erleben, in einer Stadt, die in den letzten beiden Jahrhunderten unzähligen Künstlern,
Schriftstellern und Intellektuellen als Inspirationsquelle diente.

nel clima mite dove la vegetazione mediterranea convive con quella alpina. In questa cornice
naturale, a primavera il verde delle montagne si riflette nelle distese bianche dei meli in fiore
mentre il festival Primavera Meranese celebra la sua seconda edizione. Più di due mesi, durante i quali scoprire le bellezze della stagione tra le bellezze della città dove artisti, scrittori,
intellettuali nel corso degli ultimi due secoli hanno trovato linfa per l’anima.
Eine Besonderheit des Festivals „Meraner Frühling“ ist seine Vielschichtigkeit: Es bietet

Art and nature share a stage as performers in an intriguing display and engage in a fascinating dialogue. The stage is set in Merano and in the three nearby villages of Naturno,
Scena, and Tirolo, whose mild climate lets exotic plants grow alongside alpine species. It is
a backdrop set apart by the stunning contrast between green mountain ranges and white
spring blossoms on apple trees, and the setting for the second Merano Spring Festival. Over
a two-month period, the joys of spring and the beauty of Merano can be experienced
simultaneously,in a town, that has inspired countless artists, writers, and intellectuals over
the course of the last two centuries.
One of the distinctive features of the Merano Spring Festival is its diverse and multifaceted
nature: it offers many surprises and events. Its main contents are described in detail on the

Ort: Park hinter der Landesfürstlichen Burg, Galilei-Straße
Bruchstückhafte, weiße Linienmarkierungen eines ungewöhnlichen Spielfelds, sind wie
schwere, elegante Intarsien in den Rasen gelegt und driften zwischen der Bepflanzung des
Orts. Die Linien suggerieren keine Regeln und Logistik eines bestimmten Spiels.
Kristina Buch (1983) lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf. Ihre künstlerische Arbeit ist stark konzeptuell,
humorvoll, poetisch und präzise-existentiell.
Nanna Debois Buhl (Dänemark): Trajectories of the Trachycarpus Fortunei, 2016
Die zweite Ausgabe von „Art & Nature“ findet in Meran und in den nahegelegenen Ortschaften Naturns, Schenna und Dorf Tirol statt. Das Kuratorenteam BAU hat internationale Künstler,
Performer, Architekten, Designer und Tänzer dazu eingeladen, vor Ort einen künstlerischen
Dialog mit Natur, Landschaft und Umwelt aufzunehmen. Das Projekt zeigt eine Reihe temporärer
und dauerhaft installierter Kunstwerke an öffentlichen Standorten und Spazierwegen.
„Art & Nature 2016 - Walking with Senses“ lädt dazu ein, die bespielten Stadt- und Naturlandschaften neu zu entdecken. Ein Programm von Performances und geführten Kunst-Spaziergängen („Walking with Senses Tours“) bereichert die Erfahrung der Besucher.
Ort: Außenmauer von Schloss Kallmünz, Sandplatz
„Trajectories of the Trachycarpus Fortunei“ geht - anhand einer großen Fototapete und einer
Publikation mit einem visuellen Essay - der Frage nach, wie die in Südostasien beheimatete
Fächerpalme in Meran heimisch wurde.
Nanna Debois Buhl (1975) lebt in Kopenhagen und New York. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis untersucht sie historisches und kulturelles Wissen über die Botantik, die Tierwelt, Bilder und architektonische Elemente.
Numen/For Use (Österreich/Kroatien): Tube Meran, 2016
La seconda edizione di Art & Nature si svolge a Merano e nelle circostanti località di Naturno, Scena e Tirolo. È un progetto curato dal team BAU, che ha invitato artisti, performer,
architetti, designer e danzatori internazionali a confrontarsi con le caratteristiche del territorio
nell’interdipendenza tra natura, ambiente e paesaggio. Ne nasce una serie di opere, alcune
temporanee e altre permanenti, posizionate in diversi luoghi pubblici e lungo le passeggiate.
Art & Nature 2016 - Walking with Senses rappresenta per tanto un invito a scoprire in modo
nuovo le relazioni tra paesaggio urbano e naturale. Un programma di performance e di visite
guidate (“Walking with Senses Tour”) accompagna il progetto e arricchiscono l’esperienza.
Ort: Bahnhofspark, Europa-Allee
„Numen/For Use“ spannen zwischen neun Bäumen im Meraner Bahnhofspark eine
netzartige Struktur, die begehbar ist* und eine radikale Raumerfahrung ermöglicht.
Die Installation ist in folgenden Zeiträumen zugänglich: MO-FR: 11.00-17.00 Uhr;
SA+SO: 10.00-18.00 Uhr.
*Kindern unter 6 Jahren ist der Zutritt zu „Tube Meran“ verboten. Minderjährigen über 6 Jahren ist der
Zutritt nur in Anwesenheit eines Elternteils oder Erziehungsberechtigten erlaubt.
Numen/For Use (1998) ist ein Künstlerkollektiv, gegründet von den Industriedesignern Sven Jonke,
Christoph Katzler und Nikola Radeljkovic´.
The second edition of Art & Nature is held in Merano and the nearby villages of Naturno,
Scena, and Tirolo. The curatorial team BAU has invited international artists, performers, architects, designers, and dancers to dialogue with the peculiar characteristics of the region in
a relationship set with nature, environment, and landscape. The project presents a series of
temporary and permanent artworks in public spaces and along promenades.
Art & Nature 2016 - Walking with Senses aims to propose new ways of discovering our urban and
natural landscapes. A public program of performances and walks (Walking with Senses Tours)
complements and extends the visitor’s experience.

Michael Fliri vollzieht in einem einstündigen Prozess die Transformation seines eigenen
Körpers in eine fantastische, futuristische Figur.
Michael Fliri (1978) ist ein Südtiroler Künstler, der unterschiedliche Medien nutzt. Wesentliche
Elemente seiner Arbeit sind die Wiederholung, die Unterbrechung und die Verkleidung.

Orte: Mehrere Standorte in Schenna und Freiheitsstraße/Ecke Kurpromenade - Meran
„Listen to Nature“ besteht aus insgesamt fünf Steinen, die - in Schenna (4 Steine) und Meran
(1 Stein) - genau definierte Orte markieren und als Sitzgelegenheiten für Augenblicke der
Kontemplation genutzt werden können.
Tue Greenfort (1973) lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Seine künstlerische Arbeit dreht sich um die
Themen Ökologie, Geschichte, Umwelt, soziale Beziehungen und Subjektivität.
Manuel Pelmuş & Alexandra Pirici (Rumänien): Untitled, 2016
Alvaro Urbano (Spanien): My Boy, with such Boots, we may Hope to Travel Far, 2016
Ort: Verschiedene Standorte in Dorf Tirol und am Tiroler Steig, Pulverturm - Meran
Alvaro Urbano zeigt eine Reihe von Betonskulpturen in Form von Runen-Symbolen, die den Kryptogrammen aus Jules Vernes Roman „Die Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde“ entnommen sind.
Alvaro Urbano (1983) ist Künstler und lebt in Berlin. Urbanos Praxis entfaltet sich in experimentellen Prozessen, die Synergien zwischen Lebewesen und dynamischen Strukturen aufbauen.

Manuel Pelmuş und Alexandra Pirici präsentieren performative Akte, in denen sie Objekte aus
verschiedenen Materialien verkörpern, um diese in lebende Medien zu transformieren.
Manuel Pelmuş (1974) und Alexandra Pirici (1982) leben und arbeiten als Künstlerduo in Bukarest.
Ihre Projekte befassen sich häufig mit dem Kontext von Museen und Institutionen.
Andreas Angelidakis (Griechenland): Blue Wave, 2016

„BAU“ ist eine Initiative für Kunstproduktion in Südtirol, die 2014 von Simone Mair, Lisa Mazza

Linee di un campo, distese sul prato con un intarsio di marmo bianco di Lasa, seguono l’andamento del parco, muovendosi tra gli alberi e i cespugli, tra un tempo passato e uno a venire,
senza dettare regole o imporre la logica di un gioco in particolare.
Kristina Buch (1983) vive e lavora a Düsseldorf. La sua opera è concettuale, ironica e poetica,
e al tempo stesso precisa ed esistenziale.

“Trajectories of the Trachycarpus Fortunei” si interroga, attraverso un grande wallpaper e un
giornale con un saggio fotografico, su come la specie botanica esotica della palma si sia integrata nel paesaggio di Merano.
Nanna Debois Buhl (1975) vive tra Copenhagen e New York. La sua pratica artistica si concentra in
una ricerca continua sul sapere storico e culturale attraverso la botanica, l’etologia, la cultura visuale
e architettonica.
Numen/For Use (Austria/Croazia): Tube Meran, 2016
Luogo: parco Stazione, viale Europa
Realizzata dal collettivo Numen/For Use, è una struttura reticolare sospesa, sostenuta
da un gruppo di nove alberi. Vi si può accedere*: l’esperienza propone un cambio radicale
nella percezione dello spazio.
Si potrà accedere all’installazione nei seguenti orari: LUN-VEN: ore 11.00-17.00;
SAB+DOM: ore 10.00-18.00. *È vietato l’accesso a Tube Meran ai bambini al di sotto dei 6 anni. Minori
sopra i 6 anni possono accedere all’istallazione solamente in presenza di un genitore o del tutore legale.
Numen/For Use (1998) è un collettivo fondato dai designer industriali Sven Jonke, Christoph Katzler

Luogo: vari siti a Tirolo, lungo il Tiroler Steig (sentiero) e alla Polveriera a Merano
Alvaro Urbano introduce nel paesaggio del sentiero Tiroler Steig una serie di sculture dalla
forma di simboli runici provenienti da un crittogramma che appare nel celebre libro Viaggio
al centro della Terra di Jules Verne.
Alvaro Urbano (1983) vive a Berlino. La sua ricerca si sviluppa attraverso un processo di attivazione
e sperimentazione di sinergie tra entità viventi e strutture dinamiche.

In un processo della durata di un’ora, Michael Fliri davanti agli occhi del pubblico compie la
trasformazione del proprio corpo in una figura futuristica e fantastica.
Michael Fliri (1978) è un artista altoatesino che lavora con media diversi, approcciandoli con
elementi ricorrenti come la ripetizione, l’interruzione e il travestimento.

Manuel Pelmuş e Alexandra Pirici presentano una serie di gesti performativi, attraverso i quali

Manuel Pelmuş (1974) e Alexandra Pirici (1982) vivono e lavorano a Bucarest. I progetti che
sviluppano insieme trovano spazio all’interno di musei e istituzioni pubbliche.

Scattered white outlines of an unusual game field, layed into the lawn as heavy and elegant
intarsia made from white, local marble, drift between the trees and bushes, not dictating the
rules and logic of a particular game.
Kristina Buch (1983) is an artist based in Düsseldorf. Her work is often highly conceptual,
humorous and poetic, yet precise and existential.

Trajectories of the Trachycarpus Fortunei presents - with a large-scale outdoor wallpaper and
a publication with a visual essay - an investigation on how the fan palm native to Southeast
Asia has been imbedded in the landscape of Merano.
Nanna Debois Buhl (1975) is an artist based between Copenhagen and New York. Buhl’s practice
relies on the continuous investigation of historical and cultural knowledge through botany,
animal life, imagery, and architectural elements.

Location: Parco Stazione, Viale Europa
Numen/For Use have built a netlike structure, supported by nine trees at Parco Stazione,
which can be accessed* and proposes a radical change in the perception of space.
The installation will be accessible during the following opening hours: Mon-Fri 11:00 a.m.5:00 p.m.; Sat+Sun 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
* For safety reasons children under the age of six cannot access the installation.

Listen to Nature consists of a series of five stones - four of which are positioned in Scena and
one in Merano -, that sign well-defined places and invite viewers to spend contemplative
moments seated on them.
Tue Greenfort (1973) is an artist based in Berlin. Greenfort’s work evolves around ecology and
its history, including the environment, social relations, and human subjectivity.

A performance of about one hour, in which Michael Fliri gradually transforms his own

Alvaro Urbano has placed, in several locations in Tirolo and on the Tiroler Steig reaching
Merano, a series of concrete sculptures in the shape of the rune symbols of the cryptogram
featured in Jules Verne’s novel Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Alvaro Urbano (1983) is an artist based in Berlin. Urbano’s practice unfolds through an
experimental process by creating synergies between living entities and dynamic structures.

Rückblick: Merano Art & Nature - Spring 2015

Retrospettiva: Merano Art & Nature - Spring 2015
Nell’ambito della scorsa edizione del festival Primavera Meranese, una dozzina di opere
realizzate da rinomati artisti della scena locale e internazionale è stata unita in un percorso
che ha valorizzato luoghi selezionati di Merano e dintorni. Il progetto è stato curato dal
canadese John K. Grande, noto esponente della “land art”.

Die Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff
Die Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff am östlichen Meraner Stadtrand zählen zu den
schönsten botanischen Anlagen der Welt. 2013 zum „International Garden of the Year“
gekürt, bieten die über 80 Gartenlandschaften eine einzigartige Blütenpracht und Artenvielfalt. Schloss Trauttmansdorff beherbergt mit dem „Touriseum“ zudem das erste
Museum des Alpenraums, das sich ausschließlich der Geschichte des Tourismus widmet.
In diesem Jahr feiern die Gärten ihr 15-jähriges Bestehen unter anderem mit einem neuen
„Garten für Verliebte“.
Der Garten für Verliebte
Ein neuer Gartenbereich im Zeichen der Liebe: Kunstwerke, literarische Zitate und räumliche
Inszenierungen rufen im Zusammenspiel mit sinnlichen Pflanzenarten Erinnerungen wach
und wecken Gefühle. Das Herzstück des Areals bilden drei Pavillons, überdimensionale Blumensträuße inmitten eines seichten Wasserbassins. In ihnen zelebrieren Liebende ein Ritual
in drei Schritten: Loslassen, Versprechen, Verewigen.
Der „Garten für Verliebte“ befindet sich oberhalb der beliebten Aussichtsplattform „Matteo
Thun’scher Gucker“.
Adagiati nella zona est della città, al limitare del centro urbano, i Giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff sono considerati fra i più bei parchi al mondo. Premiati nel 2013 con l’International
Garden of the Year Award, si sviluppano in oltre 80 paesaggi botanici dando vita a un tripudio di fioriture e biodiversità. Al centro troneggia il maniero, sede del Touriseum, il primo
museo della regione alpina dedicato esclusivamente alla storia del turismo.
Quest’anno i Giardini celebrano il 15° anniversario dell’apertura, che fra l’altro viene festeggiato con il nuovo “Giardino degli innamorati”.

Una nuova sezione del parco, dedicata all’amore: opere artistiche, citazioni letterarie e

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle rank among the most beautiful botanical complexes
in the world. The International Garden of the Year 2013 features more than eighty garden
landscapes with gorgeously colorful flowers and a stunning diversity of plant species.
Trauttmansdorff Castle is home to the Touriseum, the first museum in the Alps dedicated
to the history of tourism.
This year, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle celebrate their 15th anniversary with the
opening of a new Garden for Lovers.
The Garden for Lovers
A new garden area dedicated to love: works of art, literary quotations, and spatial installations evoke emotions. The centerpiece of the garden comprises three pavilions, oversized
bouquets in the middle of a shallow water basin. Inside them, lovers celebrate a three-step
ritual: letting go, promising, immortalizing.
The Garden for Lovers is situated above Matteo Thun’s Viewing Platform, Trauttmansdorff’s
popular binocular-shaped observation deck.
Per l’anniversario dei 15 anni dei Giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff, in centro a Merano
(via Cassa di Risparmio) si trova una speciale panchina. È l’Isola Trauttmansdorff, dotata di
un sistema audio che diffonde i suoni della natura e allo stesso tempo lancia il messaggio
“ricaricati - goditi la pace - rilassati”. Chi posterà su Facebook una propria foto presso l’Isola
segnalandola con #trauttmansdorff, potrà vedere il proprio profilo comparire appeso su uno
dei due alberi posizionati accanto alla panchina. L’azione si svolge fra il 23 marzo e il 23 maggio. Fra tutti i partecipanti verrà sorteggiata una visita ai Giardini.

Retrospettiva: Water Blooming, l’installazione di Ichi Ikeda
Nell’ambito di Merano Art & Nature - Spring 2015 (vedi pag. 26-27), lo scultore e performer
artistico giapponese Ichi Ikeda ha realizzato un’opera di “land art” affiorante dal laghetto
delle ninfee all’interno dei Giardini Trauttmansdorff. Water Blooming è stata la prima opera
di grandi dimensioni di Ikeda in Europa e può essere ammirata anche durante la stagione
2016 (25 marzo-15 novembre).
L’osservatore si confronta con un incessante flusso cruciforme d’immagini di celle vegetali
esagonali, mani umane e acqua corrente. L’installazione, che richiama il concetto di fugacità,
manifesta in modo plastico la visione di un utilizzo sostenibile dell’acqua.

Taking a look back: Ichi Ikeda’s installation Water Blooming
As part of the Merano Art & Nature - Spring 2015 project (see pages 26-27), Ichi Ikeda, a Japanese sculptor and performance artist, created a land-art installation in the Water Lily Pond
at the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Water Blooming was the first large-format work by
Ikeda on European soil. The work remains on display during the 2016 garden season (March
25th to November 15th).
The observer is confronted with an unremitting flood of images presented in the cross-like
installation, comprising of plant cell structures, human hands and running water. The work is
a mark of ephemerality and aptly demonstrates the sustainable use of water as an element.

Rückblick: Ichi Ikedas Installation „Water Blooming“

Bildhauer und Performancekünstler Ichi Ikeda im vergangenen Jahr eine Land Art-Installation
im Seerosenteich der Gärten. Eine europaweite Premiere, handelte es sich bei „Water
Blooming“ doch um die erste großformatige Arbeit Ikedas in Europa. Diese kann auch
während der Gartensaison 2016 (25. März bis 15. November) besichtigt werden.
Durch das kreuzartig geformte, im Seerosenteich treibende Werk wird der Betrachter mit
einer unablässigen Bilderflut - von pflanzlichen Zellstrukturen, menschlichen Händen und
fließendem Wasser - konfrontiert. Die Installation im Zeichen der Vergänglichkeit verleiht
einer nachhaltigen Nutzung des Elements Wasser auf plastische Weise Ausdruck.

Arche
Ein Werk von Alois Steger und Paul Sebastian Feichter (Südtirol/Italien)
Standort: Kurpromenade (vor dem Kurhaus), Meran
„Arche“ ist ein 18 Meter langes Boot, das zur Gänze aus Euro-Paletten gefertigt ist. Der Titel
der Arbeit spielt auf das Hausboot an, das Noah auf Weisung Gottes baute, um die vierzigtägige Sintflut zu überleben. Im Gedächtnis der Menschheit ist die Arche zum universellen Symbol
aller Katastrophenängste und Rettungssehnsüchte geworden. Die Bauweise mit Euro-Paletten
ist kein Zufall: Sie sind der Klassiker des Transportgewerbes, ein reibungsloser Warenfluss ist
ohne die simplen, aus Brettern, Klötzen und Nägeln bestehenden Paletten nicht mehr
vorstellbar. Mehr als 500 Millionen davon sind Schätzungen zufolge weltweit im Umlauf: Noah
würde seine Arche heute mit Paletten bauen.
Die auf der Kurpromenade platzierte Arche ist begehbar und hat in der Mitte einen offenen
Raum, der als Treffpunkt geeignet ist. Die Arche stellt einen Möglichkeitsraum dar. Auch für
das Nachdenken über drängende Fragen nach unserer Zukunft: Brauchen wir eine neue Arche?

Alois Steger, Jahrgang 1956, lebt und arbeitet als Künstler in Luttach/Ahrntal (Südtirol).
Künstlerisch arbeitet er vor allem am Thema Erinnerung und der Konstruktion von komplexen
Holzobjekten. Seine skulpturalen Arbeiten wurden bei Landartprojekten unter anderem in
Südkorea, am Chiemsee und bei „Arte Sella” gezeigt. 2013 wurde er für seine Arbeit „Ibriiibraus“ am Oberhollenzer - Kundenzentrum Sand in Taufers mit dem Preis „Kunst am Bau Kunst im öffentlichen Raum” des Südtiroler Künstlerbundes ausgezeichnet.
Paul Sebastian Feichter, Jahrgang 1964, lebt und arbeitet als freischaffender Künstler in
Luttach/Ahrntal (Südtirol). Seine Kunst bewegt sich vornehmlich im Bereich der Land Art. Er
sucht den Dialog mit der Materie, seine Kunst orientiert sich am Lebensprozess. Wachstum,
Naturkräfte, handwerkliche Techniken, Zerfall und Zerstörung sind ihr immanent. Seine
Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt, unter anderem
bei „Arte Sella” in Borgo Valsugana und beim „4th International Environment Art Symposium
Munui-Teachong Lake“ in Südkorea.

“Arche” è un’imbarcazione della lunghezza di 18 metri interamente realizzata in pallet. Il titolo
dell’opera allude alla casa galleggiante che Noè costruì, seguendo le istruzioni divine, per
sopravvivere ai quaranta giorni del Diluvio universale. Nell’immaginario collettivo l’arca di Noè
è divenuta simbolo globale di paura nei confronti delle catastrofi naturali, così come di ogni
anelito di salvezza. La scelta di realizzare la struttura in pallet non è casuale: si tratta infatti
di un materiale abituale nel settore dei trasporti, tanto che oggi è impossibile immaginare un
flusso regolare di merci che non ricorra ai classici supporti realizzati in legno e chiodi. Si stima
che attualmente in tutto il mondo siano in circolazione più di 500 milioni di esemplari di pallet:
è con essi che oggi Noè costruirebbe la propria arca.
Arche is an 18-meter-long boat, entirely made out of pallets. The title of the artwork refers to the
floating home Noah built by following divine instructions to survive the forty days of rain of what
was to be called the “great deluge”. Noah’s Ark has become a universal symbol of fear against
natural catastrophes in our collective imagery, as much as of our longing for salvation. The same
choice of making the structure entirely out of pallets is not accidental. It is, in fact, a common
material used in the transport sector to the point that it is impossible nowadays to imagine the
regular flow of goods without the usual supports made of wood and nails. It is estimated that
over half a billion pallets are in use: it is with them that Noah would have built his own ark today.
The ark, set along the Passer Promenade, can be reached on foot. It is set within an open space
that seems to be designed to gather people for a meeting. The ark represents the space given
to the possibility to think of the besetting questions on our future: Do we need a new ark?
How would its shape be?
L’opera, collocata sulla Passeggiata Lungo Passirio davanti al Kurhaus, si trova in un’area pedonale adibita a luogo d’incontro. L’arca rappresenta uno spazio di possibilità anche per pensare a
domande sul nostro futuro: “Abbiamo bisogno di una nuova arca? Quale sarebbe il suo aspetto?”
Alois Steger (1956) vive e lavora come artista a Lutago in Valle Aurina (Alto Adige). Artisticamente lavora principalmente approfondendo il tema della memoria e realizzando complessi
oggetti in legno. Il suo lavoro scultoreo è stato presentato all’interno di progetti di “land art”,
ospitati anche in Corea del Sud, a Chiemsee (in Baviera) e ad “Arte Sella”. Nel 2013 la sua opera
“Ibrii-ibraus”, realizzata per il centro servizio clienti Oberhollenzer a Campo Tures, si è aggiudicata il premio “Kunst am Bau - Art in Public Space”, indetto dal Südtiroler Künstlerbund.
Paul Sebastian Feichter (1964) vive e lavora come artista indipendente a Lutago/Valle Aurina

Katrin Stangl, Jahrgang 1977, lebt und arbeitet in Köln. Nach ihrem Abschluss an der Hochschule
für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, widmete sie sich der Holzschneidekunst in Brasilien. Für
ihre Illustrationen wurde sie mehrfach ausgezeichnet, etwa mit dem Hans-Meid-Förderpreis für
Buchillustration und mit der Bronzemedaille im Wettbewerb „Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt“.

“Luca al museo”, il libro d’artista per bambini
Fra le varie iniziative del festival Primavera Meranese rientra la pubblicazione di un libro d’artista
per bambini, “Luca al museo” (Corraini Edizioni), al quale vengono associati degli “atelier
viaggianti” che danno vita a workshop destinati a bambini, ragazzi e famiglie.
Luca è un piccolo esserino che vive nei boschi meranesi con una combriccola di strani personaggi,
suoi amici. Un giorno, cadendo accidentalmente da un albero, viene trovato da Simon e iniziano
le sue peripezie. Sullo sfondo suggestivo della città di Merano, tra passeggiate botaniche sulla
Gilf Promenade alla scoperta del sottobosco e della rigogliosa vegetazione, fin verso il centro con
i caratteristici vicoli, in mezzo ai paesaggi da cartolina con svettanti montagne in lontananza, si
svolge la storia di Luca e del presuntuoso Professor Merolo.
Attraverso i testi di Michael Heinze e le accese illustrazioni di Katrin Stangl, entrambi germanici,
il lettore è guidato, tra i colori sgargianti e le mille tonalità di verde della boscaglia meranese, a
seguire Luca in questa divertente avventura.
Il progetto trae ispirazione dalla raccolta Ópla, l’archivio del libro d’artista per bambini appartenente alla Biblioteca Civica di Merano, ed è il secondo libro di una collana che si sviluppa nelle
edizioni del festival Primavera Meranese. Nella collana, gli autori sono chiamati a interpretare in
una storia illustrata lo straordinario patrimonio paesaggistico della città.
Katrin Stangl è nata nel 1977, vive e lavora a Colonia. Ha frequentato la “Hochschule für Grafik
und Buchkunst” di Lipsia e ha studiato incisione popolare in Brasile. I suoi libri e le sue illustrazioni
hanno ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti, fra cui il “Hans-Meid-Förderpreis für Buchillustration” e la
medaglia di bronzo nel concorso “Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt” (I più bei libri da tutto il mondo).

The illustrated children’s book Luca at the Museum
The Merano Spring Festival’s varied program includes the publication of the illustrated children’s book Luca at the Museum by the Italian publisher Corraini Editore. Several itinerant
pop-up ateliers will present workshops for kids, juniors, and the whole family, that are directly
inspired by the book’s plot.
Luca is a small creature living with a bunch of friends in Merano’s woods. One day he falls off
a tree and is found and carried off by a boy called Simon. The ensuing adventure takes Luca
through picture-perfect landscapes set against a stunning backdrop of distant mountaintops:

„Die Schlange und die Lobi“: Eine Installation der Fachschule Laimburg
Ab 19. April
In Anlehnung an die Handlung des Buches „Luca im Museum“ entwarfen die 16 Schüler des
ersten Gartenbau-Floristik-Bienniums (Klasse 1C) der Fachschule für Obst-, Wein- und Gartenbau
Laimburg ein Landart-Objekt. Das Werk mit dem Titel „Die Schlange und die Lobi“ wird von seinen jungen Urhebern am 19. April an der Wandelhalle (Winterpromenade) gestaltet. Sowohl die
Schlange, als auch die „Lobi“ - jene Wesen, die in der Buchvorlage Merans Vegetation bevölkern -,
werden aus Naturmaterialien bestehen.
Das Buch aus Pflanzenmaterial der Stadtgärtnerei Meran
Ab Ende April
Im Rahmen des Projekts „Luca im Museum“ wird die Meraner Stadtgärtnerei Ende April ein
großformatiges Buch aus Pflanzenmaterial gestalten. Die 6 x 12 Meter messende Pflanzenskulptur soll neben dem Werk selbst vor allem auf die Rolle des Kinderkünstlerbucharchivs
„Ópla“ (Stadtbibliothek Meran) als Impulsgeber für „Luca im Museum“ hinweisen. Der eiserne
Rahmen des Buches wird von den Schmieden des städtischen Bauhofs gestaltet. Ende April
wird er in das Blumenbeet an der Postbrücke (Kurpromenade) eingefügt und von der Stadtgärtnerei bepflanzt.

Can palm trees fly? Itinerant pop-up art ateliers on Merano’s streets
Can palm trees fly? is the title of a series of workshops directly inspired by the book Luca at the
Museum. Seven itinerant pop-up ateliers will be accompanied by a mobile cart and set up funny,
experimental and highly creative performances in the following public places or along the
following promenades: along the Winter Promenade and the Summer Promenade, on the Tappeiner Trail, in the Steinach Ward, and at the Merano Market (see pages 58-59). The performances
will be presented by illustrators, writers, designers, scientists, musicians, and filmmakers.
The project is curated and developed by the design studio Lupo & Burtscher.

“Il serpente e i lobi”, installazione della scuola professionale Laimburg

Ispirandosi al libro “Luca al museo”, i 16 studenti del primo biennio floricoltura (classe 1ªC) della
scuola professionale per la frutti-, viti-, orti- e floricoltura Laimburg hanno progettato un’opera di
“land art”. L’opera, intitolata “Il serpente e i lobi”, viene installata dagli stessi giovani autori il 19
aprile presso la Wandelhalle (Passeggiata d’Inverno). Sia il serpente sia i lobi, gli esserini che nel
libro popolano la vegetazione meranese, sono fatti con materiali naturali.
Il “libro vegetale” della Giardineria comunale di Merano
Da fine aprile
Sempre nell’ambito del progetto “Luca al museo”, sul finire di aprile la Giardineria comunale
allestisce un libro di grandi dimensioni composto da materiale vegetale. La scultura arborea, delle
dimensioni di 6 x 12 metri, oltre a richiamare il progetto intende soprattutto fungere da vetrina
per Ópla, l’archivio del libro d’artista per bambini (Biblioteca civica), e promuoverne il ruolo
d’impulso svolto per “Luca al museo”.
La struttura in ferro del libro è stata progettata dai fabbri del Cantiere comunale. Il suo allestimento, e il suo successivo riempimento con piante e fiori a cura della Giardineria, è in programma per fine aprile nella grande aiuola sulla Passeggiata Lungo Passirio presso Ponte della Posta.

From April 19th
Taking their cue from the book Luca at the Museum, sixteen students of the Laimburg School for
fruit-growing, viticulture and horticulture (class 1C of the two-year horticultural and floristry
program) designed a land art object. The work is titled The snake and the lobi, and will be created
by its young masterminds on April 19th at the Wandelhalle on the Winter Promenade. Both the
snake and the small, wood-dwelling creatures known in the book as lobi will be made of natural
materials.

For the project Luca at the museum, the Town Gardeners will create a large book sculpture entirely made up of plants. Measuring 6 x 12 square meters, the plant sculpture is meant to draw attention not only on the book itself, but also on the crucial role played by the Merano Town Library’s
own archive for children’s books Ópla in supporting the project.
The sculpture’s iron frame was forged by the Bauhof’s own smiths. It will be inserted into the
large flowerbed by the Post Bridge (Passer Promenade) and densely planted with flowers by the
Town Gardeners at the end of April.

Music played on vegetables: The Vegetable Orchestra from Austria
For 17 years they have been carving and building carrot flutes, leek violins, and celery guitars,
to name but a few. The instruments played by The Vegetable Orchestra are made of vegetables
exclusively, allowing for unique sounds that could not be achieved by ordinary instruments. The
equipment is freshly prepared before every concert.
Performances in diverse contexts (e.g. in theaters, in the field of performance art, in avant-garde
and electronic music venues) have led the orchestra around the world. Their gigs are experiences
for the senses, straddling the line between performance art and live music.

Das „Urban Gardening“-Gemeinschaftsprojekt
von sechs Gärtnereien des Meraner Landes
Ab 22. April, Thermenplatz, Meran
Der Begriff „Urban Gardening“ bezeichnet den immer stärker werdenden Trend hin zur
kleinräumigen gärtnerischen Nutzung städtischer Flächen. Im Rahmen des Festivals
„Meraner Frühling“ werden sechs Gärtnereien aus Meran und Umgebung gemeinsam ein
„Urban Gardening“-Projekt umsetzen. Ein knappes Dutzend großformatiger Behälter (Holzkisten,
Autoreifen und Stahlfässer) wird in den teilnehmenden Gärtnereien reich mit Blumen,
Gemüse und Kräuterstauden bepflanzt und ab 22. April am Thermenplatz ausgestellt. Durch
das Projekt möchten die Betriebe darauf hinweisen, dass städtische Räume vielfältige Möglichkeiten zur Bepflanzung bieten - auch abseits herkömmlicher Privatgärten, die im urbanen
Kontext ohnehin keine Selbstverständlichkeit darstellen. Als Behälter wurden bewusst gewöhnliche, weitverbreitete Objekte gewählt.
Die Pflanzengefäße werden ab 22. April für etwa einen Monat ausgestellt sein. Die Initiative
findet in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kurverwaltung Meran statt und sieht die Beteiligung folgender
Betriebe vor:

Dal 22 aprile, piazza Terme, Merano
Con “Urban Gardening” viene definita la sempre più diffusa tendenza ad un uso orticolo di piccole superfici in contesti cittadini. Nella cornice del festival Primavera Meranese, sei aziende
di Merano e dintorni vi dedicano un progetto. Una dozzina di contenitori di grandi dimensioni
(cassette di legno, pneumatici e bidoni in acciaio) viene riccamente piantumata nei vivai che
partecipano all’iniziativa con fiori, ortaggi ed erbe aromatiche, in esposizione dal 22 aprile in
piazza Terme. Attraverso l’iniziativa, le giardinerie mirano a evidenziare come anche le città
possano offrire molte opportunità di messa a dimora di varie piante, anche al di là dei convenzionali giardini privati che comunque nei contesti urbani non vanno dati per scontati. Un messaggio
potenziato dall’uso, come recipienti, di oggetti ordinari e di uso comune. I “vasi” piantumati
rimangono esposti dal 22 aprile per circa un mese. L’iniziativa si svolge in collaborazione
con l’Azienda di Soggiorno di Merano e conta sulla partecipazione delle seguenti aziende:

The urban gardening project jointly organized
by six gardeners from the Merano area
From April 22nd, Piazza Terme, Merano
The term urban gardening denotes a movement that is steadily gaining momentum and is
geared towards the horticultural use of small plots of land within urban contexts. Six gardeners
from Merano and Environs will jointly set up an urban gardening project during the Merano
Spring Festival. About a dozen large containers (wooden boxes, car tires, steel drums) will be
densely planted with flowers, vegetables, and aromatic herbs, and put on public display at
Piazza Terme from April 22nd. The six businesses and their project aim to show that urban environments offer many ways of integrating gardening and horticulture, besides private gardens,
who - in any case - cannot be taken for granted in such contexts. The containers chosen for the
project are deliberately ordinary and common.
The planted objects will be exhibited for a month starting from April 22nd. The project is organized by the following companies, in collaboration with the Merano Tourist Office:

Entente Florale Europe 2015
Il tessuto urbano di Merano è caratterizzato da ampi spazi verdi, passeggiate lussureggianti
e aiuole decorate artisticamente. Tra i fiori all’occhiello vi sono i Giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff (vedi pag. 28-33) che, grazie all’ottenimento nel 2013 dell’International Garden of the
Year Award, sono entrati nel circuito dei parchi più belli al mondo.
Il patrimonio botanico della città ha contribuito in modo decisivo alla sua affermazione e alla
rinomanza raggiunta a livello internazionale. Sulla base di queste premesse, il 18 settembre
2015 alle finali di Entente Florale Europe, Merano ha conseguito il Gold Award, il riconoscimento
più prestigioso del concorso che mette a confronto località di vari Paesi europei valutando
numerosi criteri, fra i quali le politiche per la qualità dell’aria, la cura del verde, le azioni di
sensibilizzazione in tema ambientale. La premiazione si è svolta a Bristol in Inghilterra.
La partecipazione all’iniziativa, organizzata dall’Association Européenne du Fleurissement et
du Paysage (AEFP), è figlia del successo della città, nel 2014, del concorso Comuni Fioriti a cura di AsProFlor, Associazione Produttori Florovivaisti - nella categoria “comuni turistici”.
Decisiva per il conseguimento del Gold Award è stata una visita a Merano di due giorni, a
inizio dello scorso luglio, della giuria dell’AEFP.

Meran mit Gold Award geehrt
Merans Stadtbild ist geprägt von weitläufigen Grünflächen, von gepflegten Promenaden und
kunstvoll arrangierten Blumenbeeten. Mit den Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff, dem „Internationalen Garten des Jahres 2013“, bietet Meran zudem eine der schönsten botanischen
Anlagen der Welt (s. Seite 28-33).
Der grüne Reichtum Merans hat maßgeblich zum Renommee der Stadt beigetragen und findet auch international immer größere Beachtung. So wurde Meran am 18. September 2015 im
internationalen Wettbewerb „Entente Florale Europe“ mit dem Gold Award die höchste Auszeichnung verliehen. Eine prestigeträchtige Ehrung, bewertet die „Entente“ doch europaweit
Städte unter Berücksichtigung verschiedenster Kriterien (z. B. die umgesetzten Maßnahmen
zur Luftreinheit, die Pflege der lokalen Grünanlagen, geleistete Sensibilisierungsmaßnahmen
zum Thema Umweltschutz). Die Preisverleihung fand im englischen Bristol statt.
Ausrichter des Wettbewerbs ist die „Association Européenne pour le Fleurissement et le
Paysage“ (AEFP). Grundlage für Merans Beteiligung an der Entente war der Gewinn des
italienweiten „Comuni Fioriti“-Wettbewerbs 2014 in der Kategorie „Tourismusgemeinden“.
Ein zweitägiger Lokalaugenschein der AEFP-Jury im Juli war ausschlaggebend dafür, dass
Meran für Italien bei der Endausscheidung der „Entente Florale Europe“ ins Rennen gehen
und letztlich den Gold Award gewinnen konnte.

Wide green spaces, well-groomed promenades, and artfully designed flowerbeds are a distinctive feature of Merano’s urban landscape. Moreover, with the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff
Castle, the town boasts the International Garden of the Year 2013 and one of the world’s
most beautiful attractions of its kind (see pages 28-33).
Merano’s green heritage has strongly contributed to the town’s renown and has increasingly
garnered praise internationally. On September 18th, 2015, Merano won the Gold Award in the
Entente Florale Europe, the highest honor bestowed in that international competition. A prestigious accolade, given that the contest rates towns and small cities throughout Europe by
taking into consideration a multitude of factors (e.g. measures taken to reduce air pollution,
the management and maintenance of the local green spaces, the educational efforts made to
raise awareness for environmental issues). The award ceremony took place in Bristol (UK).
The Entente is organized by the Association Européenne pour le Fleurissement et le Paysage
(AEFP). Merano was eligible to participate in the Entente after winning the national competition Comuni Fioriti in 2014. The positive verdict reached by the AEFP’s jury during a twoday
stay in Merano in July clinched the town’s entry into the final stage of the contest for
Italy and, ultimately, its win of the Gold Award.

Apprezzato punto di ritrovo e appuntamento settimanale dedicato a chi è in cerca di prodotti
altoatesini di qualità, dal 19 marzo torna il Mercato Meranese. “Naturalmente regionale” è lo
slogan della manifestazione, sorta nel 2015.
I venti espositori propongono esclusivamente prodotti agroalimentari e artigianali sudtirolesi.
Una quota di stand è permanente (ossia presente ogni sabato), mentre un’altra è a rotazione:
un modo per garantire varietà e stagionalità. Si possono trovare, fra le tante cose, specialità
del maso, speck e salumeria, frutta e verdura, pane. Quanto all’artigianato, si va dagli articoli in
lana cotta e feltro ai cesti e ai bijoux, fino alle decorazioni in legno di cirmolo. Una delle caratteristiche principali dell’iniziativa è il contatto diretto con i produttori.
Un altro è il suo allestimento, curato da Martino Gamper, che ha creato una liaison fra contesto urbano e tradizione sudtirolese. Meranese d’origine, Gamper si è affermato a Londra ed è
una firma internazionale del design, vincitore nel 2014 del riconoscimento Icon Awards
Designer of the Year.

Er ist ein beliebter Treffpunkt und ein wöchentlicher Pflichttermin für Liebhaber von Südtiroler
Qualitätsprodukten: Unter dem Motto „Natürlich regional“ erlebt der 2015 bereits regelmäßig
abgehaltene Meraner Markt am 19. März seine diesjährige Premiere.
An den über 20 Verkaufsständen des Meraner Marktes dürfen ausschließlich Lebensmittel
und Handwerkserzeugnisse aus Südtirol angeboten werden. Neben Ständen für „fixe“ (an
jedem Markttag anwesende) Verkäufer, ist ein Teil der Marktplätze wechselnden Standbetreibern vorbehalten. Auf diese Weise ist ein vielfältiges, abwechslungsreiches Warenangebot
garantiert. Neben saisonalen Delikatessen vom Bauern, werden am Meraner Markt
unter anderem Speck und Fleischspezialitäten, Obst, Gemüse und Brot angeboten. Zu den
Handwerksartikeln zählen hingegen Woll- und Filzwaren, Geflochtenes und Schmuckstücke
sowie Dekoratives aus Zirbelholz. Ein zentrales Element des Marktkonzepts ist die Direktvermarktung dieser und weiterer Produkte.
Die Marktstände wurden von Martino Gamper entworfen und gestaltet. Der gebürtige Meraner hat sich in seiner Wahlheimat London international einen Namen gemacht und wurde 2014
zum „Icon Awards Designer of the Year“ gekürt. Sein Gestaltungskonzept für den Meraner
Markt stellt einen Dialog zwischen urbanem Kontext und Südtiroler Handwerk dar.

It is a popular meeting point and a must for all those into high-quality South Tyrolean products: held under the motto Local by nature, and after regular market days in 2015, the Merano
Market returns this year on March 19th.
Only agricultural products and handcrafted goods of South Tyrolean origin may be sold at the
twenty or more stands of the Merano Market. A section of the market is reserved for infrequent vendors next to the stalls for regular vendors (those present every market day). This
ensures a wide variety and diversity of goods. These include seasonal farming products, Speck
ham and meat specialties, wild berries, wine, and bread. The handcrafted goods on offer consist of wool and felt objects, lace and jewelry, as well as decorations made from pinewood. The
Merano Market strongly promotes the direct marketing of these and other products.
The market stalls were designed and created by Martino Gamper. Originally from Merano,
Gamper has made a name for himself internationally in his new home, London, and was named
Icon Awards Designer of the Year in 2014. His design concept for the Merano Market creates a
dialogue between an urban context and South Tyrolean traditions.

“There’s probably a child sobbing somewhere now because he’s lost his doll”, said Simon’s moth
“Go on, hand it over to him”, Simon’s father insisted.
Simon’s protests and crying were of no use. In the end he handed the doll over to Professor Mer
who grabbed it and quickly slipped it into his leather bag.
“Come along now, let’s proceed with our tour!”, said the professor.
