NEWS RELEASE FROM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 25, 2008 Damian P. Hill or Pete Anderson AGC of Michigan 517/371-1550/Fax 517/371-1131 E-mail [email protected] AGC of Michigan and MIOSHA Renew Construction Safety Alliance – AGC Safety Awards Presented Ypsilanti, Mich.–In a continuing effort to expand the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan’s safety initiatives, the association renewed its strategic alliance with the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA) today during its Annual Meeting in Ypsilanti. “By combining our resources, the AGC of Michigan and MIOSHA can have a significant impact on safety and health prevention efforts at construction job sites,” said MIOSHA director Doug Kalinowski. “This strategic alliance will give AGC of Michigan contractors the necessary tools to protect their workers and commit to safe and healthy work practices.” The key goals of the alliance include: Promoting enhanced awareness of worker safety and health to AGC members. Promoting worker safety through education and training opportunities at the jobsite. Promoting increased implementation of accident prevention programs at members’ job sites. Promoting both regular and unscheduled MIOSHA Consultation Education & Training (CET) Division safety and health hazard surveys. Contractors participating in the alliance will post a special weatherproof banner designed for construction sites that announces the MIOSHA-AGC of Michigan alliance and the contractor’s commitment to safety. “When workers, subcontractors, even the public see this, it stresses the importance of construction safety and health on the project site,” said Pete Anderson, safety director for the AGC of Michigan. “It shows commitment on the part of the project management team to achieving zero lost work time due to accidents, if not the total elimination of injuries and work related health problems.” -More- The first formal cooperative agreement between MIOSHA and the Michigan Chapter AGC was signed in 1998. Since then, both organizations have worked jointly to expand the efforts of improving safety in the industry.
