COMBINED LICENSE
On March 6, 2008, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC), and representatives of Progress Energy, Inc. (PE), at NRC Headquarters,
One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of this meeting
was to discuss the Shearon Harris combined license (COL) application and orient the NRC
staff on the components and contents of the Shearon Harris COL submitted by PE on
February 19, 2008.
The meeting, scheduled from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., finished early at approximately 3:00 p.m.
The presentation, outlined in the agenda provided in the public meeting notice, was completed
and the staff asked only a few questions. During the meeting, PE gave an overview of
geotechnical and environmental site specific characteristics. There was one question asked by
the staff that pertained to the maximum flood level value which PE determined for the site
compared to the design certification documentation (DCD) level. Since that value was not
readily available, PE requested to show the NRC the value after the meeting. Table 2.0-201,
“Comparison of AP1000 DCD Site Parameters and Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Units 2 and 3
Site Characteristics,” contained values of the flood level on sheet 6 of 9 (page 2.0-8). The table
showed that the applicant, PE, derived a value of 259.87 feet.
