Office of Academic and Student Af‐ Electrical Engineering Summer Enrollment Courses to take Summer 2016 to reduce your course load or time to degree: 1. Complete any missing major prep courses (Math, Physics, Chemistry) 2. Electrical Engineering (EL ENGR) 3 ‐ Introduction to Electrical Engineering. Requisite: Physics 1B. This course is a requisite for the circuits sequence. EE 3 plus OPS (see reverse) is offered during Session C (July 18th‐Sept 9) and flows into Fall quarter with an approximate three‐week break. 3. EL ENGR 102 ‐ Systems and Signals. Requisite: Math 33A, Co‐requisite: Math 33B. This course is a direct requisite for four required EE courses which could be taken in the first year of enrollment ‐‐ EE 110, 113, 131A, 141. Summer Advising: Attending orientation is recommended for all incoming students. Please visit the orientation website for details: www.newstudents.ucla.edu/transferstudents.htm If you are unable to attend orientation, you must sign up for email advising in order to enroll in courses for the fall quarter. Email [email protected] and notify us starting in mid‐July that you cannot attend (include your name and UID). Requisite Evaluations for Summer Enrollment: 1. For transfers from California Community Colleges: First check assist.org to see if you can meet the requisites for the summer course. 2. If you were unable to determine if you meet the requisites, then you may have courses evaluated. Please contact [email protected] for more information on the course evaluation process. Only UCLA summer course credit will be evaluated. 3. For students NOT taking summer courses, course evaluations will be completed at summer orientation. Please do NOT contact us about evaluations before orientation. ELECTRICALENGINEERING3/IEEEOPS StudentstransferringtoUCLAarestronglyencouragedtobecomeinvolvedinoneofthe manyfirstratestudentorganizations.Theseprovidesocialandtechnicalinteractions outsidetheclassroom.Theyprovideahome,andskillsthatareveryvaluableforan engineeringcareer.Inrecognitionoftheimportance,thissummerforthefirsttimewe areofferingalongwithEE3thebasictrainingprogramoneofourpremierstudent organizationsteachestofreshmen.TheUCLAstudentchapteroftheInstituteof ElectricalandElectronicEngineers(IEEE)waslastyearnamedthebeststudentchapter inthewesternUnitedStatesforitsteaching,design,andoutreachactivities. TheIEEEOPS(OpenProjectSpace)programisasequenceofstudent‐taughtprojects thatbeginataverybasiclevelandculminatewithaprojectinwhichanembedded systemisoperated.Thisprovidesthehands‐ontrainingandexperiencetoparticipatein teamsforIEEEcompetitionssuchasNATCARorMicromouse.Thistrainingalso preparesstudentsforteamsinotherdesign‐orientedstudentorganizations(e.g.,the SAE,Battlebots)inwhichelectronicsplaysasignificantrole.Forthisspecialsummer session,allstudentsenrolledinEE3havetheoptiontotakeOPS.Theonlycostis$100 forthepartsthatbecomethepropertyofthestudent,whichisrefundedifallofthe projectsinthesequencearecompleted.Thatis,participatingstudentsgettheirmoney backandbecomepreparedtobepartoftheIEEEfamilybysuccessfullymasteringthe projects. EE3plusOPSwillbeofferedinUCLA’sSummerSessionCandwillrunfromJuly18thto September9th.ThiscourseisbeingofferedinSessionCsothatitwillgivestudents flexibilitytocometocampuslaterinSummerandwillflowseamlesslyintoFallquarter. StudentsenrollinginEE3inSummerwillbereadytotakethefirstcircuitscourse,EE 10,intheFallandthencontinuewithEE110inWinterand115AinSpring.
