A volunteer Park Patrol member reported seeing a cougar in the Cherry Orchard area of the park. In addition to being a City of Salem park, Minto-Brown Island Park is a State Wildlife Refuge. As such, wildlife can be found in the park. Signs have been posted warning visitors of the cougar sighting and to use caution when encountering wildlife in the park. City staff has contacted the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to investigate the sighting.
