We have four Faculties – Arts, Divinity, Medicine and Science. Students choose the Faculty in which they want to study based upon their qualifications and interests. Please note, in the Faculty of Arts the degree is called a Master of Arts (MA) which is equivalent to a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Students are admitted to a specific degree programme within one of our four Faculties. This provides breadth and flexibility as students can drop and pick up subjects over their first two years, allowing them to settle on their chosen degree path at the end of Year 2. Students in all Faculties (except Medicine) will begin by taking three subjects in Year 1. Personal Statement This is a student’s opportunity to outline their reasons for applying for their choice of subject(s) and their potential to succeed. I benefited from St Andrews’ traditional Scottish approach to education. This style is more self-disciplined and frankly a bit more intense then the American approach. With the lecture and tutorial model at St Andrews, I not only had to grasp a deeper understanding of the topic at hand, but I also had to synthesize it in a smaller tutorial setting, and later be tested on it. I also met people from over 40 different countries which proved an invaluable network still in use today! But, more than that, I knew his degree would be recognised worldwide as coming from one of a small group of top UK universities that are well known internationally. All this proved correct.
