Liebe Kollegen und Kolleginnen!
Now that the universities and high schools in our area are getting back into the swing of the school year,
it is time to get ready for our regional chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German’s
annual fall meeting. We are an organization of German teaching professionals and simply those with an
interest in promoting the study of the German language and cultures. The fall meeting is designed as a
forum for networking and professional growth through contact with others in the field. Since you are
sometimes the only German educator on the campus, it is sometimes nice to know that you are not
alone. Ideally, this can become a way for teachers to get some of their required annual training credits
as well.
As part of this event, we would like to take some time for our area colleges and universities to introduce
their programs to the high school teachers and let us know what types of programs are out there in our
area for students. Is this perhaps something your institution would be interested in participating in?
Presenters will have approximately 15 minutes for a share. We encourage you to bring along recruiting
materials that the high school teachers can take back to their schools to share with guidance counselors,
parents, and students. We are also anticipating time to share what the higher education levels expect
from our high school students before they join in their programs and how high school teachers can help
your programs grow/stay strong, as well as Q & A.
The conference day will be Saturday, September 21st. Registration and check-in will be at 8:30am the
Holiday Inn Express located at 114 and Main Street in Grapevine, TX. The university/college sessions are
tentatively scheduled in our afternoon timeframe. We estimate between 20-50 attendees. I will send
out exact numbers in about two weeks.
Presenters must be current AATG members, and the registration fee will be waived for the
conference. Please contact me for further information and participation details. I look forward to your
participation and to seeing you next month.
Sincerely,
