More than ever, IT departments want to realize the benefits of desktop virtualization—
cost savings, ease of management, improved security, and platform independence.
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) was designed to provide a streamlined solution
for many of these customers’ needs. Often, these advantages are not fully realized
and user experience is less than adequate due to performance bottlenecks and low
response rates and delays.
Many existing VDI solutions experience performance degradation due to hardware and
configuration limitations. This degradation can be the result of many factors, but is
predominantly caused by the fact that VDI infrastructure was designed using
traditional means, and did not use flash-based technologies like EMC XtremIO.
Many customers use a proof-of-concept prior to going into deployment, which can
provide valuable insight to how VDI would benefit their business. Moving from test
and development to deployment while delivering the same experience is another
challenge of VDI. This requires in-depth planning in order to scale the proof-ofconcept to thousands of users without increasing management complexity while
maintaining the same service level agreement (SLA) as designed in the proof-ofconcept.

The EMC® VDI Implementation Services for XtremIO include two distinct and separate
services:

New VDI Setup: EMC Global Services experts define storage requirements for
XtremIO based on your VDI use case, networking and compute capabilities. We
provide a solution-based VDI architecture that is based on either VMware® or
Citrix best practices for your respective virtual desktop technologies. Our experts
can also provide a proof-of-concept using XtremIO to test and verify the
configuration and performance before deploying the technology to all end users.

Upgrade Existing VDI: EMC Global Services migration experts provide high-level
infrastructure recommendations for VDI including a roadmap for migrating a
current VDI deployment to XtremIO technology. This service comprises an initial
analysis of existing profiles and use cases, followed by configuration of the VDI
architecture using best practices for either VMware or Citrix virtual desktop
solutions. Also, for customers who are interested in evaluating VDI with the
power of XtremIO, a proof-of-concept instance can be provided as well.
