1. CLOUD TIERING FOR INACTIVE DATA
Not all data is created equal and tiering data based upon performance, availability or
other business requirements can lead to a more powerful and cost-efficient data center.
Cloud storage in particular provides a high capacity, low cost storage solution ideal for
many types of inactive or archive data.
CloudArray provides a seamless link from primary SAN and NAS storage solutions to
highly scalable public and private cloud solutions. The result is a tiered storage solution
that can take advantage of all the benefits of a primary storage array, while providing
access to an entirely different tier of storage in the cloud to which inactive data can
easily be moved without sacrificing accessibility. Unlike tape and other solutions,
storing inactive data in the cloud with CloudArray means everything can be accessed at
any time to help meet business and regulatory requirements.
Furthermore, thanks to CloudArray’s local disk caching, all recently accessed data
actually remains stored on CloudArray in addition to being stored in the cloud. By
caching data locally, CloudArray limits the need to retrieve data from the cloud,
improving performance, limiting network impact, and further reducing storage costs,
especially in the case of public providers, who charge fees for cloud puts and gets.
To further help reduce any costs of tiering data to the cloud, CloudArray also features
selectable deduplication and compression for up to 10x data reduction on all cloud
data. CloudArray deduplication means redundant data is not pushed to the cloud
reducing the amount of data that is actually stored and the bandwidth required. By
reducing the cloud capacity usage, CloudArray not only significantly cuts total storage
costs in the cloud, but also further reduces access fees and bandwidth costs.
Ultimately, by making cloud tiering seamless and cost efficient, CloudArray provides an
simple way of incorporating the cost benefits of cloud storage into any storage solution.
2. REMOTE/BRANCH OFFICE STORAGE
In addition to providing access to a cloud tier for inactive data, CloudArray is also
ideally suited for use in remote and branch offices (ROBO) that are looking for a
solution that requires only a small footprint, reduces power and cooling costs, and is
straightforward to manage. CloudArray’s connectivity to the cloud makes it great for
storing less demanding ROBO data without requiring a large local footprint or extensive
resources. By connecting to the cloud, ROBO sites are able minimize their local capacity
while maintaining full accessibility to all their data and keeping more demanding
workloads on-site in the local cache.
CloudArray’s support for numerous cloud providers ensures that organizations can
leverage whatever investment they may have made in cloud storage. Whether it’s the
pay-as-you-go model of public cloud providers, like Microsoft Azure and Google, or
private cloud instances backed by EMC ECS or Isilon, remote offices can leverage
existing organizational investment while further limiting their own branch costs.
3. CAPACITY EXPANSION
Data volumes across the board are getting larger and not always as predictably as
many IT departments would like. CloudArray provides organizations with a means of
reducing the challenges of data growth by seamless providing capacity expansion
abilities through the integration of online cloud storage into existing environments. By
connecting to the cloud, CloudArray gives users a dynamic way to grow and shrink local
system capacities, whether it’s moving data to the cloud temporarily in order to handle
unexpected bursts in capacity demand, or migrating data longer term in order to free
up primary capacity or extend the usefulness of a current system.
