EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
"Let's be clear on HANA.
HANA not only represents the intellectual
renewal of SAP, it is now the platform for
every single thing the SAP company will do
going forward.”

Increasingly customers are transforming SAP to lower operational cost to “keep the
lights on” and to enable faster innovation with accelerated time to market with mobile
“consumer grade” apps, real-time analytics and reporting, and to enhance the
customers experience real-time.
As a result, Enterprise IT is under tremendous pressure from developers, end users,
line-of-business owners – to eliminate complexity and increase agility by quickly
delivering the right infrastructure IT services and applications to support the business,
no matter what their projects require.
Over 70% of our surveyed customer’s CIOs demanded, IT needs to build and operate
a well-run hybrid cloud in order to balance these needs, since private cloud by itself
does not provide the flexibility and cost efficiency needed and public cloud introduces
challenges on security and in many cases compliance.

Figure 5. Self Service Portal
of EHC for SAP providing a secure portal where authorized administrators, developers,
or business users can request new IT services.
Multitenancy, resource scaling, and chargeback
With IT servicing various business units and functions requiring IT resources for SAP,
a multitenant model isolates the business data and resources consumed by an
organizational entity. This enables cloud administrators to gain control of service
performance, cost, and vendors important to managing IT as a business.
Through vCAC, uses this model to structure its computing, storage, and network
resources resource pooling, service measurement, and chargeback.
Security
Current physical network and security solutions are rigid, complex, and expensive.
Figure 6. IT Business Management
Provisioning is slow and workload placement/ mobility is limited by physical topology.
VMware NSX reproduces the entire network model in software, enabling a library of
logical networking elements and services, such as logical switches, routers, firewalls,
VPN, and workload security.
Self-service provisioning
With VMware vCAC, a user can provide even very complex SAP systems with just a
one request click to be ready for logon in minutes.
Enabled with SAP unattended installation mode used side-by-side with VMware vCAD,
is a fully customizable, fully automated installation right from storage provisioning,
virtual machine creation, SAP system installation, to a logon-ready SAP system.
Migration
EMC Hybrid Cloud allows you to import a non-EMC Hybrid Cloud SAP virtual machine
Figure 7. IT Operations
from another environment, and “standardize” it to become an EMC Hybrid Cloud
compatible virtual machine.
Health monitoring and root cause analysis
EMC Hybrid Cloud uses VMware vCenter Operations Manager (vC Ops) and EMC ViPR
SRM to monitor the whole platform granularly, from application through the
hypervisor, all the way to the storage array, even to the spindle. vCOPS provides all
performance related information and data from an SAP-specific context to provide the
right aspect.
