PROSPECTUS MA/BA/CHR Programmes 2015 DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION TRIPURA UNIVERSITY (A Central University) Suryamaninagar :: Tripura :: India www.tripurauniv.in 0|Page TRIPURA UNIVERSITY: A PROFILE Tripura University was established under the Tripura University Act -1987 on 2nd October 1987, as a State University, with the objective of facilitating the growth and quality of education among the people of the State in areas of contemporary relevance to the society and the country. The UGC granted it recognition as University under Section 12B of the UGC Act on May 1998. Subsequently, Tripura University was converted to a Central University under the Tripura University Act, 2006(9 of 2007) with effect from the 2nd day of July, 2007. The University has at present two Faculties, the Faculty of Arts & Commerce and the Faculty of Science. At present Tripura University offers a total number of 54 courses, which includes certificate courses, Under Graduate courses, Post Graduate Diplomas and Post Graduate Studies. Besides the above courses, the University also offers PhD Programme in 33 subjects. The University also provides academic support to 46 affiliated Degree Colleges in the State by way of formulating the curricula, supervising academic programmes and conducting examinations. During the last eight years, the University has made impressive development in diverse arenas of education, studied and addressed social problems and promoted scientific research. The Placement Cell of the University provides help and support to the Students through campus interview. The University also conducts NET coaching classes/ tutorials for SC/ST/OBC students. The University campus is growing fast and equipped with facilities like Bank and ATM service, Water Treatment Plant, Health Centre, Guest House, Central Library, Indoor and Outdoor Auditoriums, Eco-Park, Cafeteria etc. 1|Page DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) was established in 1996 to impart higher education through the distance mode with multi-media approach. As non-formal, supplementary mode of education, distance education differs from the conventional formal system in its objective to reach the unreached, to include the excluded. Tripura University has consistently promoted Distance Education on the guidelines of the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, New Delhi to cater to the needs of – 1. Students who discontinued their formal education owing to pecuniary and other circumstances 2. Students living in geographically remote areas of the state 3. Students who discontinued their education because of lack of aptitude and motivation but later on became motivated 4. In-service persons, housewives, etc. At present, there are more than 9000 students studying under this Directorate of Distance Education (DDE). The entire programme is of six months’ duration. North-East India has experienced severe human rights violation in which both state and non-state actors have been instrumental. The present programme intends to generate awareness in both groups. Naturally, the objective of the curriculum is to train students in dealing with theoretical and practical situations as encountered in the region. This 3-year programme is divided in 3 parts – Part-I, Part-II and Part-III, one-year for each Part. In view of the great demand for this programme in Tripura, the DDE has opened 23 Study Centers in different Degree Colleges of the State. MERE POSSESSION OF ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS DOES NOT ENSURE RIGHT TO ADMISSION IN ANY PROGRAMMES UNDER THE DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (DDE), TRIPURA UNIVERSITY. THE CUT-OFF MARKS FOR ADMISSION TO ALL ODL PROGRAMMES UNDER DDE SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE ADMISSION COMMITTEE DULY CONSTITUTED BY TRIPURA UNIVERSITY AND THE DECISION OF THE COMMITTEE SHALL REMAIN INVIOLABLE. 14 | P a g e GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Academic Session: Each Academic Session shall commence from the month of July. Admission Procedure: The Distance Education Admission Eligibility Test (DEAET): The Tripura University will conduct the ‘Distance Education Admission Eligibility Test’ (DEAET) for different Post Graduate (viz. Political Science, Education, Bengali, History, Philosophy and English) Programmes in Tripura University, Suryamaninagar failing which the applicant’s candidature will not be considered/ entertained for admission. The counterfoil mark as “Acknowledgement-cum-Admit Card” must be produced at the time of the Admission Test in the DDE, TU. No separate call letter will be sent and no TA/DA will be paid to the candidates for appearing in the DEAET. Mere receiving “Acknowledgement-cum-Admit Card” does not give anyone right to appear in the DEAET or seek admission to any programme under DDE, Tripura University. Attestation: The Photograph in the Application Form and other papers maybe self attested. Selection for Admission: Selection Procedure for Post Graduate Programmes: The selection of Candidates for admission to Post Graduate Programmes shall be made on the basis of the merit list of the ‘Distance Education Admission Eligibility Test’ (DEAET) conducted by the DDE, Tripura University. Reservation: Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC (Non creamy layer)/ especially abled students shall be as per Central Government Rules and Guidelines. 2% supernumerary seats are available for students of Jammu & Kashmir. Details of Eligibility Criteria, Admission Test Norms, Date of Admission Tests, Syllabus of DEAET of the respective Programme, List of Selected and Waitlisted Candidates for Admission shall be available in the Tripura University Website : www.tripurauniv.in. APPLICATION FORMS INCOMPLETE IN ANY RESPECT OR WITHOUT SUPPORTIVE DOCUMENTS MENTIONED ABOVE WILL BE REJECTED. No Original documents should be sent with the Application Form. However, all Students are required to show the Original Certificates/ Marksheets etc. at the time Admission. 15 | P a g e FEE STRUCTURE AND MODE OF PAYMENT Fee 1. BA 2. MA 3. Students are required to deposit Examination Fee while filling in their Examination Forms as per Tripura University rules. Renewal Fee = Rs. 300/- Deferred Fee = Rs. 300/- The Course Fee, Examination Fee, Renewal Fee and Deferred Fee are required to be paid through Power Jyoti Challan (No 32157404236) at any Branch of SBI. NO APPLICATION FOR REFUND OF DEPOSITED COURSE FEE SHALL BE ENTERTAINED. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: Except for language subjects, the medium of instruction/examination in the DDE, Tripura University for all Programmes is English. The deliberations in the classrooms during Personal Contact Programme shall be in English medium other than the language subjects. Candidates shall have to write all Examination Papers as well as Assignments only in English (except in language subjects). Internal Assessment: 1. Master of Arts (MA): Internal Assessment shall be carried out as per the decision of the concerned faculty. However, a student must work out at least one Assignment for each Paper with or without Project/Viva Voce/Written Test. 2. Bachelor of Arts (BA), Certificate Course in Human Rights (CHR): A Student has to prepare 1 (one) Assignment for each Paper of each Subject. ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND MODEL QUESTIONS ETC. SHALL BE AVAILABLE IN THE TRIPURA UNIVERSITY WEBSITE. NO HARD COPY OF ASSIGNMENTS, MODEL QUESTIONS ETC. WILL BE GIVEN TO ANY CANDIDATE/LEARNERS. CANDIDATES/LEARNERS SHALL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE SAME FROM THE TRIPURA UNIVERSITY WEBSITE: www.tripurauniv.in. 16 | P a g e Assignments and Evaluation of Assignments A Student shall prepare Assignments and submit the same to the DDE within specified dates. A Candidate shall have to work out Assignments for each paper and send them under Registered Post or submit in person to the Directorate of Distance Education, Tripura University, Suryamaninagar 799 022 within dates specified by the above office. Assignments reaching beyond the last date will disqualify Candidates from appearing in the Semester End Examination. Students are required to prepare Assignments in their own hand writing and in their own language. Copying from anywhere or by any means is strictly prohibited. Any two or more Assignments of two or more separate Students with same contents and written in the same language shall be liable to cancellation and such Students shall be treated as failed for that particular paper(s). Such Students shall not be allowed to sit for the Semester End Examination for those particular paper(s). 17 | P a g e Writing and Submitting Assignments 1. Students must use only A4 size paper for submitting Assignments and tie all pages carefully. 2. On the Cover Page, the following Information shall have to be provided: Name : Programme : Enrolment No. : Subject : Paper : Assignment Number : Address : Tel. Ph. No. : Signature with date : 3. In writing an Assignment, on the left side of each A4 paper, a 4cm margin should be kept for the evaluator to write his/her comments. A 4cm gap between two answers should also be kept. 4. Students are asked to write Assignments in their own hand-writing; they should not print or type any answer. 5. Copying directly from course materials is strictly prohibited. 6. Copying from the Response Sheets of other Candidates is disallowed. If copying is detected, the Assignments of both candidates shall be rejected. 7. Each Assignment must be written separately. Students must not mix up all Assignments together. 8. Worked out Assignments shall have to be submitted within due date to the offices/centres as specified against each programme below: MA Assignments BA CHR DDE, TU, Suryamaninagar Respective DDE Study Centres DDE, TU, Suryamaninagar If a Student fails to submit his/her Assignment(s) within the last date of submission of Examination Forms or fails to secure minimum Pass Marks (35% for each Paper), he/she will have to collect Assignment(s) meant for the next batch of Students from the Office of the DDE on payment of Deferred Fee of Rs. 300/- and submit all Assignments afresh within the due date. For submission of worked-out Assignments and their Evaluation, the process will be similar to that for Semester-I (for MA) and Semester-I (for BA) above. Personal Contact Programme (PCP) 1. The DDE organises PCPs on Saturdays and Sundays and/or Vacations, and/or/also on any Weekdays (if necessary) as per notification. Additional PCPs too if necessary are scheduled with prior notification. 2. To become eligible for sitting in Examination, each Student must have at least 20% Attendance in Counselling during PCPs. If a Student fails to secure the minimum percentage of attendance, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the Final Examination of the University. However, such Students may be allowed to appear in Examination in subsequent year(s) on payment of Deferred Fee of Rs. 300/- and after he/she has attended 20% counselling at the PCPs. Cancellation of Admission Admission is liable to be cancelled at any stage of the course studied on grounds of – 1. Non-fulfilment of Eligibility Criteria (discovered through scrutiny). 2. Submission of False or Wrong Information 3. Misconduct or Misbehaviour 4. Adoption of Unfair Means in Examination 5. Indiscipline and Violation of University Rules. The online application portal shall remain open w.e.f. 15.04.2015, 10.00 IST to 10.05.2015 24.00 IST for all students. Read the Instructions carefully before filling up the forms. When a student visits the admission portal, he/she shall find three options. o For International students o For Regular Mode students o For Distance mode students If you are an Indian student double click to visit the portal (For Distance mode students). An Indian student may apply for all the six programs. But for each program, one has to apply separately. Applicants have to go through the entire process each time he/she applies for a program (like Registration, submission of requisite fees, filling up online from etc) irrespective of the number of programs applied for. After a student enters a portal, he/she shall get the list of the programs for which one may apply. Thereafter he/she shall get the information in detail besides the general information. You will get a Journal number. Use the number while filling up the form. Keep at least one part of challan (as a fee-submission proof) with you. It may be helpful in future. Applicants are advised to retain proof of fees deposited for future reference. Admit Cards may be downloaded after verification of fees paid (if found correct). It may take few days. While filling the online form, make sure to notedown the Journal number (unique for every submission of fees), the failure of which may lead to rejection of application at the time of verification, as a result of which the applicant may not be able to download the admit card. Indian applicants opting for more than one program are advised to check the admission test schedule before applying, so as to avoid collision of test schedules.
