ITCFF’S PURPOSE
The Infant & Toddler Connection of
Fairfax-Falls Church provides
evaluations and early intervention
services to eligible infants and
toddlers who have a developmental
delay and who are younger than
three years old. Early intervention
supports and services focus on
increasing the child's participation in
family and community activities that
are important to the family. In
addition, supports and services focus
on helping parents and other
caregivers know how to find ways to
help the child learn during everyday
activities. These supports and
services are available for all eligible
children and their families regardless
of the family's ability to pay.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Thanks to all the families that joined us at Van Dyck Park for our
annual ITC family and staff picnic. The day was perfect with great
weather, fun activities and lots of food! Seeing all the smiling faces
is one of the highlights of my year.
We are moving into the 21st century in terms of electronic
correspondence. You may recall providing us with your email
address at intake or at a meeting with your Service Coordinator.
We are now ready to use the email addresses to provide you with
information about community resources and the current happenings
at ITC. Be on the lookout for an introductory e-mail from Andrea
Adelmann, Family Resource Coordinator, regarding an ITCFF
listserve and more coming this summer.
As you are well aware, ITC is undergoing a statewide
transformation, which primarily affects internal procedures. Your
child’s services should not be adversely impacted, however if you
have any concerns, please feel free to contact me. I may be
reached at [email protected] or 703-246-7170.
Enjoy the lazy days of summer!

JOINT POSITION STATEMENT ON
QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD INCLUSION
The Division for Early Childhood and the National Association for the Education of Young Children
have recently approved a joint position statement that underscores their commitment to quality early
childhood inclusion. Early Childhood Inclusion: A Joint Position Statement of the Division for Early
Childhood (DEC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) takes a
historic step by providing a shared national definition of inclusion as “the values, policies, and
practices that support the right of every infant and young child and his or her family, regardless of
ability, to participate in a broad range of activities and contexts as full members of families,
communities, and society.” The document, which was developed through a collaborative national
process that the National Professional Development Center on Inclusion (NPDCI) coordinated,
JUNE/JULY 2009
represents the first time these two leading national organizations have partnered on a joint product
that is expected to have a widespread impact on the early childhood field. View or download the
position statement at
http://community.fpg.unc.edu/resources/articles/Early_Childhood_Inclusion.
A 1-page synthesis of the position statement is also available at
