Smyth Affordable Housing Issues and Opportunities Monday, May 8, 2006 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Fairhill Elementary School – Cafeteria 3001 Chichester Lane, Fairfax Affordable Housing Resources in Fairfax County Mary Stevens and John Payne of the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will provide an overview of housing programs and needs in Fairfax County. The presentation will include answers to the following questions; ‘What are the current opportunities to access affordable housing in Fairfax County?’ ‘How many residents are currently served?’ ‘What are the estimated unmet housing needs in Fairfax County? What are the Counties affordable housing initiatives?’ ‘What is the penny for affordable housing program?’ What sorts of partnerships exist between the County and the non-profit community?’ Obtaining Affordable Housing through the Land Use Process Panel Discussion DHCD staff, Donna Pesto of the Department of Planning and Zoning and other experts will discuss the current regulatory opportunities and constraints to obtaining affordable housing through the land use development process. Q&A The rest of the evening will engage participants in a question and answer session to discuss the future of housing needs in Fairfax County. This will be an opportunity to discuss new ideas and future challenges in providing access to affordable housing for all Fairfax County residents.
