October 2015 Dear Granite Falls School-Community Friends,
205 N. Alder Ave Granite Falls, WA 98252 PHONE 360.691.7717 FAX 306.691.4459 Linda Hall, Superintendent “Every Student, Every Day, Every Classroom” October 2015 Dear Granite Falls School-Community Friends, The 2015-2016 school year is off to a terrific start with students and staff returning to school with smiles and enthusiasm. We are looking forward to an awesome year! In my previous Superintendent letter, I shared information regarding the release of the Smarter Balanced Assessment scores. The District results are posted on the OSPI website. The individual assessments are available at the schools. With the new format this year, the reports can be very confusing, and we want to help you interpret these results. The District will host an open house night to distribute the individual assessment reports and offer a variety of resources on the Common Core and SBAC. The Assessment Informational Night will be held on Monday, November 9 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for grades K-8 and 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for grades 9-12 at Mountain Way Elementary School. If you wish to inquire about your child’s results prior to the information night, please contact your school’s principal. Granite Falls School District is the largest employer in our town. We are always looking for talented, dedicated individuals to assist us in providing a quality learning experience for our students! We are seeking substitutes for all positions. Did you know that a person with a college Bachelor’s degree can be an emergency substitute teacher? Did you know that a person with a high school degree can be employed in a classified position? Please check our website or call our Human Resources at 360-283-4309 for more information. Our mentor program is looking for mentors! We have several students that are on a waiting list. The primary role of a mentor is to promote positive self-esteem and success in school. A mentor is a role model that listens, encourages, and guides. Please think about spending 30 minutes a week with a student. I am a mentor, and it is very rewarding and fun! Contact Kayla Lehman at 360-283-4353 for more information. Thank you for your indispensable partnership and support of our schools. It is great to see so many of you at the school and community events happening. Our tight-knit community is filled with pride and generosity. This year, marks the 50th year of the annual town event, Railroad and Reunion Days. While you’re walking the street fair on Saturday, please stop by and say “hi” at our Granite Falls School District booth. Granite is a great place to be! Respectfully, Linda Hall Superintendent The mission of the Granite Falls School District is to inspire and facilitate a passion for life-long learning and the pursuit of excellence in every student, every day.
