Transfer Planning Sheet –International Studies (IST)
The following Cortland courses are recommended by the department to complete prior to transfer. The
transfer credit limit from a 2-year college is 64 credits.
The International Studies major is a unique interdisciplinary program, which requires a concentration to complete the
program. You can choose to focus on a geographic location: Africa; Asia and Pacific Basin; Europe; or Latin America. Or
you can choose a disciplinary concentration: Geography; Culture and Global Development; Global Economic Systems;
Global Political Systems; Historical Development; International Health.




Students currently on SUNY campuses should consult their academic advisor for additional choices in general
education categories when any course is recommended.

Students in IST need to demonstrate foreign language proficiency beyond the regular College requirement. You
can choose to complete a foreign language sequence to the intermediate level II (202) in a second language,
complete 12 credits of courses at the 300 level or above in the initial language, study abroad, or by advisement.
