Geology Undergraduate Student Scholarship Application
The Geology Department offers several scholarships each year to Geology graduate and undergraduate
students. Each scholarship has its own criteria, so it is important that you fully complete this application.
If an item does not apply to you, write N/A. Do not leave it blank. If you have failed to respond to any item,
your application will not be considered for a scholarship. Once you have completed the application online, print it, sign it, and submit a hard copy to the Geology Office, Geology Building Room 205.

Geology Undergraduate Student Scholarships
All scholarships are awarded during Spring semester and are available every year unless otherwise
indicated. Scholarship payments are administered through the USU Scholarship Office
Criteria
John M. Branch Memorial Scholarship

Must be a declared Geoscience major with junior-level standing.
Must be returning the following academic year to complete course work for graduation.
Must have completed at least four major Geology courses at the 3000 level or higher by the spring semester
of the academic year in which you are applying for this scholarship.
Must have an outstanding academic record, as determined by the overall GPA.
Clyde T. Hardy Memorial Scholarship

Must be a declared Geoscience major.
Must have completed four of the geology field camp prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester of
the academic year in which you are applying for this scholarship.
Must intend to take the USU Geology Field Camp the summer immediately following receipt of the
scholarship.
Must have an outstanding academic record, as determined by the overall GPA.
Peter T. Kolesar Scholarship

Must be a matriculated upper-division Geoscience major in good standing.
Financial need may be considered and should be demonstrated on the application, if applying for this
scholarship.
David Rider Memorial Scholarship

Must be a Geoscience major and have a minimum 3.2 GPA (USU and overall).
Must have a junior-level standing in course work completed at the time of the application deadline (minimum
of 60 credits completed).

Thomas A. Riemondy Scholarship

A separate, one page essay describing interest in an environmental science or engineering career and stating
a willingness to participate in the URS internship program must be included with the application to be
considered for this scholarship and internship.
