Great Lakes Energy Cooperative
Case No. U-15817
Renewable Energy Plan Annual Report under MCL 460.1051(1).
INTRODUCTION
Great Lakes Energy Cooperative (“Great Lakes”) is required to submit an annual report to the
Commission including all of the following information:
(a) The amount of electricity and renewable energy credits that the
electric provider generated or acquired from renewable energy
systems during the reporting period and the amount of renewable
energy credits that the electric provider acquired, sold, traded, or
otherwise transferred during the reporting period.
(b) The amount of electricity that the electric provider generated or
acquired from advanced cleaner energy systems pursuant to this
act during the reporting period.
(c) The capacity of each renewable energy system and advanced
cleaner energy system owned, operated, or controlled by the
electric provider, the total amount of electricity generated by each
renewable energy system or advanced cleaner energy system
during the reporting period, and the percentage of that total amount
of electricity from each renewable energy system that was
generated directly from renewable energy.
(d) Whether, during the reporting period, the electric provider
began construction on, acquired, or placed into operation a
renewable energy system or advanced cleaner energy system.
(e) Expenditures made in the past year and anticipated future
expenditures to comply with this subpart.
(f) Any other information that the commission determines
necessary.
MCL 460.1051(2). Therefore, to that end, Great Lakes submits the following information:
LAN01\238953.1
ID\SMJO - 025200/0999
(a)
THE AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY AND RENEWABLE ENERGY
CREDITS THAT THE ELECTRIC PROVIDER GENERATED OR
ACQUIRED FROM RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS DURING THE
REPORTING PERIOD AND THE AMOUNT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
CREDITS THAT THE ELECTRIC PROVIDER ACQUIRED, SOLD,
TRADED, OR OTHERWISE TRANSFERRED DURING THE
REPORTING PERIOD.
In 2010, Great Lakes’ generation and transmission cooperative, Wolverine Power Supply
Cooperative, Inc. (“Wolverine”), purchased 143,821 MWh of renewable electricity: 138,737
MWh of wind power from the Harvest Wind Farm and 5,084 MWh of hydro power from
Thunder Bay Hydro. Including the 19,142 renewable energy credits (RECs) banked and
reported last year, a total of 116,470 RECs have been banked on behalf of Wolverine’s
distribution cooperative members, including Great Lakes.
(b)
THE AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY THAT THE ELECTRIC PROVIDER
GENERATED OR ACQUIRED FROM ADVANCED CLEANER ENERGY
SYSTEMS PURSUANT TO THIS ACT DURING THE REPORTING
PERIOD.
In 2010, Great Lakes neither generated nor acquired electricity from an advanced cleaner energy
system.
(c)
THE CAPACITY OF EACH RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM AND
ADVANCED CLEANER ENERGY SYSTEM OWNED, OPERATED, OR
CONTROLLED BY THE ELECTRIC PROVIDER, THE TOTAL
AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY GENERATED BY EACH RENEWABLE
ENERGY SYSTEM OR ADVANCED CLEANER ENERGY SYSTEM
DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD, AND THE PERCENTAGE OF
THAT TOTAL AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY FROM EACH
RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM THAT WAS GENERATED
DIRECTLY FROM RENEWABLE ENERGY.
Great Lakes, one of four distribution cooperative members of Wolverine, acquires its renewable
energy from Wolverine’s contractual arrangements with the Harvest Wind Farm, located in
Huron County, Michigan and four Thunder Bay Hydro run-of-river facilities. The Harvest Wind
Farm spans 3,200 acres between Elkton and Pigeon, Michigan. Each of the wind farm’s 32
turbines is capable of producing 1.65 MW of electricity, for a total nameplate capacity of 52.8
MW. The four Thunder Bay Hydro facilities, which are located in northeast Lower Michigan,
are capable of producing a total nameplate capacity of 7.85 MW. Due to the intermittent nature
of wind, the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. (MISO) determined only
8% of the Harvest Wind Farm’s nameplate MW can be claimed for planning reserve margin, or

4.2 MW. Wolverine’s four distribution cooperative members’ 2010 capacity value from the
Harvest Wind Farm was 2 MW.
(d)
WHETHER, DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD, THE ELECTRIC
PROVIDER BEGAN CONSTRUCTION ON, ACQUIRED, OR PLACED
INTO OPERATION A RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM OR
ADVANCED CLEANER ENERGY SYSTEM.
In 2010, Great Lakes did not begin construction on, acquire, or place into operation a renewable
or advanced cleaner energy system.

A. The number of weather-normalized megawatt hours of electricity sold by the
electric provider during the previous year to retail customers in this state.
B. The average number of megawatt hours of electricity sold by the electric
provider annually during the previous 3 years to retail customers in this
state.
