Data Entry Standards Team 5 min Owner DE DE Meeting Minutes Minutes Introductions of members present. Tom Pink will not be serving on this team. Banner is an enterprise, relational database where business information and function will be shared under one system. Because of this shared nature of the database, data entry standards are needed. Example: How will “Sault Ste. Marie” be entered into Banner? Need standards: • Reduce duplicate personal identification records through reliable search of existing records, • Promote search capability through uniform data entry, • Promote reporting efforts based on presentation, retrieval and joins of the data, v.1.0 Page 1 of 3 August 19, 2004 Data Entry Standards Team Meeting Minutes See how others did it. 5 min DE Define Task & Scope 15 min DE Next Actions 15 min DE and, • Promote uniform output for letters and other documents. Reviewed other printed standards from other schools. Distributed Lansing CC data standards list as a sample. 1. Define current data standards 2. From those create a list of standards that need to be defined. 3. Each team member will take a part of the list and make a standard. 4. Team will review and accept 5. Standards Document created for approval 6. K.I.S.S. 7. Make recommendations 8. Incorporate standards into training 9. On-going review of standards as needed as Banner is implemented. 10. Work area located at: O:\Banner 2004\Data Standards Team folder. (Contact IT if you can’t access the O: drive.) 1. Location of next meeting will be the Marine Room in the Library. 2. Search on Google or Yahoo under "Banner Data Entry" or "Banner Data Standards" looking at standards for other schools and how they defined data standards. 3. I have added THE LIST.doc in the O:\Banner 2004\Data Standards Team folder. Please review and add to the list as far as everything we need to define with a standard as far as you and Data Entry Standards Team Meeting Minutes v.1.0 Page 2 of 3 August 19, 2004 Data Entry Standards Team Meeting Minutes your system is concerned. 4. Please either define or copy your current system data standards to O:\Banner 2004\Data Standards Team\Before Banner folder and bring it to this next meeting to help us begin to define standards.
