A D i s p e n s at i o n o f Z i o n BEHOLD MY BELOVED SON Narrator & Orchestra mor mon : Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life. I am Mormon, and a pure descendant of Lehi. I have reason to bless my God and my Savior Jesus Christ[.] Surely he hath blessed the house of Jacob, and hath been merciful unto the seed of Joseph. (3 Nephi 5:13, 20-21) According to our record, in the thirty and fourth year [after the birth of Christ], in the first month, on the fourth day of the month, there arose a great storm, such an one as never had been known in all the land. [And it] did last for about the space of three hours, and then behold, there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land[.] (3 Nephi 8:1, 5, 19-20) And it came to pass that there were a great multitude gathered together, round about the temple which was in the land Bountiful, conversing about this Jesus Christ, of whom the sign had been given concerning his death. And it came to pass that while they were thus conversing, they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven; and it was not a harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice; nevertheless, and notwithstanding it being a small voice it did pierce them to the very soul, and did cause their hearts to burn. (3 Nephi 11:13) And it said unto them: Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name — hear ye him. And they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe. And [He] spake unto them saying: Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world. And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! (3 Nephi 11:6-8, 13-14, 16-17) Hosanna! Choir & Orchestra Hosanna! Blessed be the name Of the Most High God! The light and the life of the world, Who suffered the will of the Father In all things from the beginning. The light and the life of the world, Who drank from the bitter cup That the Father gave unto him. The light and the life of the world, Who glorified the Father In taking the sins of the world. Blessed be the name Of the Most High God! Hosanna! (3 Nephi 11:11&17) How Oft WILL I GATHER YOU Bariton, Choir & Orchestra O ye people of Israel, How oft have I gathered you, How oft have I nourished you, O Israel. O ye people of Israel, Ye who have fallen, How oft would I have gathered you, And ye would not. O ye house of Israel, Whom I have spared, O ye house of Israel, How oft will I gather you, If ye will repent and return unto me With full purpose of heart. B RING FORTH MY ZION | 1 O ye people of Israel, How oft will I gather you, O Israel. (3 Nephi 10:4-6) Partakers of the Heavenly Gift Narrator & Orchestra mor mon : And it came to pass that the thirty and fourth year passed away, and also the thirty and fifth, and behold the disciples of Jesus had formed a church of Christ in all the lands round about. And the people were all converted unto the Lord, and they had all things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift. And surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God. [They had become Ziovn] because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness, and there [were] no poor among them. And there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people. (4 Nephi 1:1-3, 15-16 and Moses 7:18) The Love of God Choir, Audience & Orchestra c hoir : The love of God leads me on! His radiant light is my song! His love is pure, how freely it comes, That we may all be one. For He is life eternal; The truth, the light, the way. Praise to God! Wondrous God! Precious love: the love of God. (4 Nephi 1:15-16, K. Newell Dayley) audi enc e ( on c u e ) : He lives, all glory to his name! He lives, my Savior still the same; 2 | BRING FORTH MY ZION Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: “I know that my Redeemer lives!” He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Savior still the same; Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: “I know that my Redeemer lives.” (Hymns, #136) choi r: Praise to God! Wondrous God! Precious love: the love of God. Lifted Up In Pride Narrator & Orchestra mormon: And how blessed were they! For the Lord did bless them in all their doings. And now I would that ye should know that the people had become exceedingly rich, because of their prosperity in Christ. But in the two hundred and first year there began to be among them those who were lifted up in pride, such as the wearing of costly apparel, and of the fine things of the world. And from that time forth they did have their goods and their substance no more common among them. And they began to be divided into classes; and they began to build up churches unto themselves to get gain, and began to deny the true church of Christ. (4 Nephi 1:18, 23-26) They were once a delightsome people, and had Christ for their shepherd; yea they were led even by God the Father. But now, behold, they [were] led about by Satan, and every heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding of blood continually. And there never had been so great wickedness among all the house of Israel as was among this people. And when they had hewn down all my people save it were twenty and four of us (among whom was my son Moroni), my soul was rent with anguish, and I cried: (Mormon 5:17-18; 4:11-12; and 6:11&16) O Ye Fair Ones my people unto salvation. And out of weakness he shall be made strong. (2 Nephi 3:4,6,13,15) O ye fair ones, ye fair ones of God, How could ye have departed From the ways of the Lord? O how could ye have rejected that Jesus Who stood with open arms to receive you? I speak now of Joseph, the son of Joseph Smith, Sr. Lacking the wisdom to discern the truth among the competing religions of [his] youth, he decided to do as the Apostle James directs, that is, ask of God; for the words of James seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of [his] heart. On the morning of a beautiful, clear morning [he] retired to the woods to make the attempt. Having looked around [him], and finding [him]self alone, [he] kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of [his] heart to God. Mormon, Moroni & Orchestra O ye fair sons and daughters, Ye husbands and wives, O ye fair ones of God. O how could ye have fallen, Ye fair ones of God? Ye are gone. (Mormon 6:16-20) I I . T h e R e s t o ra t i o n A Seer Shall the Lord Raise Up Second Narrator & Orchestra moron i: I make an end of speaking concerning this people. I am [Moroni] the son of Mormon, and my father was a descendant of Nephi. And I am the same who hideth up [our] record unto the Lord; and whoso shall bring it to light, him will the Lord bless. None can have power to bring it to light save it be given him of God; for God wills that it shall be done with an eye single to his glory, and it shall be done by the power of God. (Mormon 8:13-16) I am [also] a descendant of Joseph who was carried captive into Egypt. And great were the covenants of the Lord which he made unto Joseph. For Joseph truly testified, saying: A seer shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a choice seer unto the fruit of my loins. And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring (Joseph Smith – History 1:11-15) What Is This Dark Foreboding Fear? Baritone & Orchestra O God… What is this dark foreboding fear That fills my heart with deep despair And makes my blood run cold? O God… Thick darkness all around me lowers And grips me with an awful power, Even my tongue it holds. O God… Abandon me not to this woe. Deliver me from this dread foe, And hear, O God, my prayer. (Joseph Smith D– History 1:15-16, John S. Tanner) Joseph Baritone & Orchestra “Joseph!” What light! “Joseph!” What joy! “Joseph, This is My Beloved Son.” “Hear Him!” (Joseph Smith – History 1:17, John S. Let the seas acclaim the wonders Of the earth’s Eternal King! Solid rocks for joy start weeping! Sun and stars together sing! Let the dead lift up an anthem To the Lord Immanuel! And let us with Him redeem them From their prison house in Hell! Let us gather in the temple For the Lord’s great day is near, There a glorious voice from heaven Sounds salvation in our ears. Let the purifying fire Before thy coming long foretold, Forge thy saints with sons of Levi, Purged as silver, pure as gold. Shout for joy ye sons of Zion For the gospel is restored With good news to all creation Of the coming of the Lord! With the hope of life eternal, Honor, immortality, Glory, power, exaltation, Thrones and principalities! Shall we not go on to vict’ry? For the gospel is restored With good news to all creation, Of the coming of our Lord! (D&C 128:22-24, John S. Tanner) I I I . L at t e r- Day Z i o n A Marvelous Work Narrator & Orchestra mor mon: The restored gospel, this “good news to all creation” as found in our ancient records, has indeed come forth in your day through the prophesied latter-day Joseph. I declare these things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies. And behold, they shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God; and his word shall hiss forth from generation to generation. (Moroni 10:28) And also the time cometh that after the house of Israel [has] been scattered and confounded, that the Lord God will raise up a mighty nation among the Gentiles, yea, even upon the face of this land; and the Lord God will proceed to do a marvelous work among the Gentiles. And the time cometh speedily that the righteous must be led up as calves of the stall, and the Holy One of Israel must reign in dominion, and might, and power, and great glory. And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd, and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture. And because of the righteousness of the people, Satan hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth. (1 Nephi 22:7-8, 24-26) And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be. (1 Nephi 13:37) B RING FORTH MY ZION | 5 Bring Forth My Zion Choir & Orchestra Blessed are they who shall seek To bring forth my Zion at that day, For they shall have the gift And power of the Holy Ghost; And if they endure unto the end They shall be lifted up at the last day, And shall be saved In the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; And whoso shall publish peace, Yea, tidings of great joy, How beautiful upon the mountains Shall they be. (1 Nephi 13:37) Humble and Full of Love Narrator & Orchestra mor mon : Jesus Christ has said to you in your day: “Keep my commandments, and seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion. Behold, I speak to all those who have desires to bring forth and establish this work; and no one can assist in this work except [they] shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to your care. Behold, I am the light and the life of the world.” (D&C 12:6-9) Faith In Every Footstep Choir, Audience & Orchestra c hoir : A marvelous work has begun to come forth Among all the children of men. O ye that embark in the service of God, Give heart, mind, and strength unto him; For prophets have spoken and angels have come 6 | BRING FORTH MY ZION To lift the world from sin, That Christ may reign over all the earth And bless his gathered kin. audi e nce : With faith in every footstep, We follow Christ, the Lord; And filled with hope through his pure love, We sing with one accord. choi r: Those marvelous saints who embraced this great work And shared it in lands far and near; Who gave all their heart, mind, and strength to the Lord With wisdom and vision so clear; Now stand as examples of virtue and faith, Of souls prepared to hear, Of knowledge sure, born of humble heart, And love that banished fear. audi e nce : With faith in every footstep, We follow Christ, the Lord; And filled with hope through his pure love, We sing with one accord. choi r: If we now desire to assist in this work And thrust in our sickle with might; If we will embark in the service of God And harvest in fields that are white: Our souls may receive the salvation of God; The fullness of his light, That we may stand, free of sin and blame, God’s glory in our sight. audi e nce : With faith in every footstep, We follow Christ, the Lord; And filled with hope through his pure love, We sing with one accord. c hoir : And filled with hope through his pure love, We sing with one accord. (D&C 4, K. Newell Dayley) Armed with Righteousness Narrator & Orchestra mor mon : Nephi beheld the church of the Lamb of God, and its numbers were few, and their dominions upon the face of the earth were small. And it came to pass that Nephi beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory. (1 Nephi 14:7,12, 14) The Lord hath gathered all things in one. The Lord hath brought down Zion from above The Lord hath brought up Zion from beneath. The earth hath travailed and brought forth her strength; And truth is established in her bowels; And the heavens have smiled upon her; And she is clothed with the glory of her God; For he stands in the midst of his people. Glory, and honor, and power, and might, Be ascribed to our God; for he is full of mercy, Justice, grace and truth, and peace, Forever and ever, Amen. (D&C 84:99-102) For the Almighty [has] laid [his] hands upon the nations, to scourge them for their wickedness. And plagues shall go forth, and they shall not be taken from the earth until [he has] completed [his] work, which shall be cut short in righteousness — Until all shall know [him], who remain, even from the least unto the greatest, and shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, and shall see eye to eye, and shall lift up their voice, and with the voice together sing this new song: (D&C 84:96-98) The Lord Hath Brought Again Zion Baritone, Tenor, Choir & Orchestra The Lord hath brought again Zion; The Lord hath redeemed his people, Israel, According to the election of grace, Which was brought to pass by the faith And covenant of their fathers. The Lord hath redeemed his people; And Satan is bound and time is no longer. B RING FORTH MY ZION | 7 A B O U T K . NE W E L L D A Y L EY, C o m p o s e r K.
