After hearing about the plans
to build the DCL Plaza as the
new entrance to the Michigan
State College of Law at my 30th
reunion last fall, I decided that it
would be a fitting tribute. I have
fond memories of many late
nights in the law review office
and challenging conversations
with professors who simply
seemed to care about their
students. I hope that each time
a student enters the plaza for the
first time, she is proud to follow
in a tradition of excellence and
leadership that has been a part
of DCL/MSU College of Law since its inception.

Students come to MSU Law with a dream of
making a difference.
Some want to make the law more accessible.
Others want to be part of the changes happening
in the legal profession. Many want to help clients
in business or government. As I talk with alumni
from around the country, I am inspired by their
passion to have an impact, to make our world a
better place for everyone, including current MSU
Law students.

Alton Davis Scholarship
For as long as I can remember, I have always
wanted to become an attorney. As someone
who comes from a very humble background,
the price of law school has always been
daunting. I, as well as my peers, have come
to realize that law school education is
accompanied by an expensive price tag,
unless the out-of-pocket cost of attendance
is mitigated by a scholarship. I was honored
to be selected to receive the Alton T. Davis
Moot Court Scholarship. I am truly thankful
for this support.

Alum Gives Back To MSU Law Students
MSU Law Board Trustee Elaine Fieldman, ’76, is giving back to MSU
Law students by helping with the financial costs of taking a bar exam
course. Julia Opiela, 3L, was one of
the recipients of the Elaine
Fieldman Bar Scholarship and the
Rick and Raj Wiener Scholarship.
This scholarship will allow me to
continue to diligently focus on my
legal studies, without having to
worry about how I will finance the
expensive bar course,” Opiela said.
“My grandfather, a former city
prosecutor, instilled in me a love of
learning and an understanding of
the importance of hard work and
dedication. I am determined to
succeed in law school and use

Alum Gives Back To MSU Law Students
MSU Law Board Trustee Elaine Fieldman, ’76, is giving back to MSU
Law students by helping with the financial costs of taking a bar exam
course. Julia Opiela, 3L, was one of
the recipients of the Elaine
Fieldman Bar Scholarship and the
Rick and Raj Wiener Scholarship.
This scholarship will allow me to
continue to diligently focus on my
legal studies, without having to
worry about how I will finance the
expensive bar course,” Opiela said.

prosecutor, instilled in me a love of
learning and an understanding of
the importance of hard work and

After hearing about the plans
to build the DCL Plaza as the
new entrance to the Michigan
State College of Law at my 30th
reunion last fall, I decided that it
would be a fitting tribute. I have
fond memories of many late
nights in the law review office
and challenging conversations
with professors who simply
seemed to care about their
students. I hope that each time
a student enters the plaza for the
first time, she is proud to follow
in a tradition of excellence and
leadership that has been a part
of DCL/MSU College of Law since its inception.

making a difference.
Some want to make the law more accessible.
Others want to be part of the changes happening

in business or government. As I talk with alumni
from around the country, I am inspired by their
passion to have an impact, to make our world a
better place for everyone, including current MSU
Law students.

Alton Davis Scholarship
For as long as I can remember, I have always
wanted to become an attorney. As someone
who comes from a very humble background,
the price of law school has always been
daunting. I, as well as my peers, have come
to realize that law school education is
accompanied by an expensive price tag,
unless the out-of-pocket cost of attendance
is mitigated by a scholarship. I was honored
to be selected to receive the Alton T. Davis
Moot Court Scholarship. I am truly thankful
for this support.
