ANSC 7390 Advanced Animal Science Seminar (Cr. Hrs 3), 2015-2016 Instructor: Dr. Karmin O, Animal Science Phone (204)235-3951 Email: [email protected] Ph.D. Candidates are expected to complete a grant application form, review and critique current literature and present a seminar on current research topics This course is graded pass / fail. Fall 2015 semester: 10:00 – 11:15am Tuesday, Room 219 Animal Science Building Winter 2016 semester: 11:30am – 12:45pm Tuesday, Room 219 Animal Science Building Faculty seminar: once a month, 3:30pm Seminars are presented by graduate students and faculty members / guest speakers Participation is strongly encouraged: attendance, Q & A, chair person * Guidelines for effective oral presentations * Presenting and chairing seminars effectively (time management) * University policies on dealing with Cheating, plagiarism and fraud * Documents are distributed through U of M website at the beginning of Fall semester. Students are also expected to (1) Review two scientific peer-reviewed full-length articles and submit written comments. The instructor will review the comments and give feedback to the student. Instruction available at http://www.elsevier.com/reviewers/how-to-conduct-a-review (2) Prepare a research proposal in a format of NSERC Discovery Grant Application Detailed instruction available at: www.nserc‐crsng.gc.ca The instructor will review the application and give feedback to the student (usually 2-3 revisions). (3) Give a scientific presentation (30-45min) to the class followed by 10-15 min Q and A.
