General Manager Agrologists, Manitoba Institute of Agrologists Position Purpose: Working with and reporting to the Operations Committee of Agrologists of Canada, the main focus of this position is to serve and support the collective interests of the ten provincial agrology institutes as described in the Strategic and Business plans of the organization. This new half-time position (0.5 EFT) will involve ongoing management of the operational and administrative functions of the national body by a skilled and experienced independent contractor. Primary Responsibilities and Tasks Prepare quarterly reports on institute activities, achievements and finances. Propose and deliver communication strategies to connect with provincial institutes, the general public, the agricultural and environmental communities and government. Assist with project management and delivery for those projects identified by the national body for action. Prepare communication content for the national web site and for each provincial institute as directed by the Operations Committee. Assist Project Teams and Operations Committee with project development, project management and report development and delivery. Assist officers and the Operations Committee with document preparation as required Lead development of annual report for the AGM. Attend the quarterly board member meetings (phone conference calls and the AGM). Key Position Information The work will be performed by an independent contractor. No physical office space or equipment is provided. Documents (Expression of Interest, Letter of Application, Resume) submitted in connection with the position must be in French and English. The position budget is based on a calendar year. Travel may be required to the AGM or to other destinations on behalf of the national body. All travel expenses are covered by the national body. Be able to complete all work using computer, web, phone, and email. This is an annual contract that may be renewed each year depending on funding, work to be done and performance. The position may be terminated by either party at any time with a 48-hour notice. A clear termination description will be provided in the contract. Two full-time Tenure-track Assistant/Associate NSERC Industrial Research Chair Professors, Arctic Systems Science, Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources With the support of KGS Group and Stantec, both positions will work within the recently CFI funded Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO; http://umanitoba.ca/ceos/research/CMO.html). Both positions will encompass the broad field of Arctic System Science with a particular emphasis on the detection, impacts and or mitigation of oil (and other transportation related contaminant) spills in sea ice-covered environments. This can include the fields of sea ice geophysics, remote sensing, thermodynamics, genomics, geomicrobiology, low temperature isotope systematics, biogeochemistry, physical, chemical and biological oceanography, and physical and chemical measurement and/or modeling of oil spills in sea ice. The successful candidates must have a strong background in one or more of these areas, experience in working within a team approach to science, Arctic field experience and have completed their PhD, and or have postdoctoral experience by the time of their appointment. Successful applicants will be expected to work with the Director of CEOS in development of a competitive proposal to NSERC and develop a research program complementary to, and in support of the new CMO program coordinated through their industrial research chair sponsors; one chair will be sponsored by KGS Group (http://www.kgsgroup.com) and one by Stantec (http://www.stantec.com). Each sponsored chair will have a focus in one or more of the subfields of detection, impacts and/or mitigation of oil spills in sea ice. Each chair will act as a conduit between the commercial and research interests of the sponsor company and the broader academic capacity of the Arctic System Science and Technology signature group (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/program-programme/srp-prs/manitoba-eng.pdf). Each chair will receive sufficient funding to support their salary, one technician and travel funds. The successful candidates will become members of the Center for Earth Observation Science (CEOS; http://www.umanitoba.ca/ceos/) and housed in a purpose-built Nellie Cournoyea Arctic Research Facility. The Arctic Science Partnership (ASP) between CEOS, the Arctic Research Centre (ARC) at Aarhus University, and the Greenland Climate Research Centre (GCRC) will also provide added networking, field opportunities and exchange of staff and students (see asp-net.org). Successful candidates will hold appointments in the Department of Environment and Geography. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their respective expertise in the environmental or geosciences. Candidates must have a strong commitment to research and teaching in their specialization. The appointments will commence July 1, 2016, or as soon thereafter as may be mutually agreed. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
