MESSAGE FROM THE HISTORY GRADUATE STUDENT
ASSOCIATION:
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you, on behalf of the History Graduate
Students Association, to the Fort Garry Lectures Conference 2016! We are very excited about the
response we received for this year’s event as we have 31 presenters from 7 different institutions,
located in 3 provinces. It is very gratifying to note that the presentations cover a wide range of
very interesting historical topics!
The Fort Garry Lectures aims to promote scholarly exchange on critical questions
increasingly central to research across the Arts and Humanities by bringing together student
researchers from across Canada to engage in comprehensive thinking across disciplinary
boundaries and methodological approaches.
The Fort Garry Lectures helps generate opportunities for student professional development
and research dissemination in a supportive environment. Furthermore, the Fort Garry Lectures is
a platform where students can showcase their research in a collegial environment and forge
interdisciplinary connections with students and faculty from across the university and the country.
I would like to thank each of you for attending the conference and bringing your expertise
to the event, and we could not succeed without your support and leadership.
Enjoy the conference.
Petra Lundy
President of the HGSA
