the winner of the Faculty of Arts Award in
Internationalization for 2011. Jorge will be
officially presented with this award at the Arts
Celebrating Arts ceremony in September.

STUDENT PUBLICATIONS
Congratulations to History PhD students,
Leah Morton and Greg Di Cresce who
each have an article published in the
Spring 2011 edition of Manitoba History.
Leah’s piece is titled “From Nose Sprays
to Nursing Shortages: Managing Epidemic
Polio in Manitoba, 1928-1953,” and
Greg’s is titled “‘Essentially a Women’s
Work’: Reform, Empire and the Winnipeg
Children’s Hospital, 1909-1925.”
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Hawaii International Conference
on Arts and Humanities will take
place Jan. 10-12, 2012 in Honolulu.
Conference organizers seek contributions
of research papers, workshops, panel
sessions and poster presentations from
all areas of Arts and Humanities. Submit
a proposal by emailing an abstract/paper
plus a title page containing: the title of
the submission; topic area; presentation
format; and list the full name, department,
institutional affiliation and email address
of each author/participant. Email

IN THE COMMUNITY
The Manitoba Museum is holding
a daily ‘behind the scenes’ tour of
the museum throughout the summer.
Visitors will be shown how the
museum’s dioramas are put together
and also visit one the of the museum
vaults. The tour accepts 10 participants
at 11 am each day. Also at the Museum
is a presentation called Titanic: The
Manitoba Connection that is shown at
1:30 daily. Both activities are included
in the museum admission fee. 190
