Excellence in Teaching Awards Department of Internal Medicine
Department of Internal Medicine November 2015 Excellence in Teaching Awards At the Department of Internal Medicine Faculty Dinner held at the Hotel Fort Garry on November 26, 2015 - seventeen Internal Medicine faculty members were recognized for excellence in teaching. In 2005 Dr. Dan Roberts initiated a bi-annual program to recognize the significant role and exceptional dedication that our clinician educators play in the education of the next generation of physicians, and reward teaching excellence in the Department of Internal Medicine. The teaching excellence awards are the Department’s most visible recognition of the teaching accomplishments of our faculty members. Department of Internal Medicine GC 430 820 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, Manitoba The Morley Lertzman Subspecialty Clinician Educator and the Barry J. Kaufman Awards were established to recognize a clinician educator amongst the subspecialty attending faculty and a clinician educator amongst the CTU attendee faculty. The numerical scores from Resident Evaluations of attending physicians over the last four year period are used to determine the names of the individuals with the highest numerical scores. The names are presented to the Teaching Awards Selection Committee, a committee established by the Department Head, Dr. Dan Roberts, with representatives from each site, and the chief residents. The committee’s recommendations are forwarded to the Department Head and kept confidential until the recipients are announced at the Faculty Dinner. Resident evaluations are the most important element in the selection of the teaching excellence awards and are used to acknowledge those faculty members who received “outstanding” resident evaluations.
