Comprehensive Preschool-Postsecondary
(P20) Alignment

In 2008, Colorado’s Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K) set forth a common


Prepare all educators and leaders for the demands of the 21st century classroom

Move away from seat-time (Carnegie unit) requirements to competency-based
determinations of student readiness

Align high school EXIT graduation policies and ENTRANCE higher education
admission policy, remedial and placement policies with the state’s postsecondary
and workforce ready (PWR) definition
Guiding Beliefs




What does postsecondary and workforce ready mean
and how can it move from a policy statement to

Students benefit from the alignment of high school and

Flexibility:
 Students should have multiple, equally rigorous and
valued pathways to meaningful careers and post

Our policies should provide a way to OPEN more
doors and create more opportunities for students.
