Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80203 303-866-6635 Colorado school districts annually report the number of incidents and disciplinary actions taken for certain types of student behavior to the Colorado Department of Education in accordance with the Safe School Act enacted in 2000. The following charts and tables are in addition to the 2014-15 report which describes these incidents and disciplinary actions taken for the 2014-15 school year. The current 201415 data was also compared to the 2013-14 data to investigate whether substantial differences were seen since the last report. The full report can be seen found here: http://www.cde.state.co.us/dropoutprevention/studentdisciplineanalysis. Below is a brief summary of the report findings. During the 2014-15 school year, there were 91,549 disciplined incidents reported of which the most common incidents were: Disobedient/ defiant or repeated interference (30.2%), Detrimental behavior (27.6%) Other code of conduct violations (25.2%) Of the 889,006 students enrolled statewide, 58,586 (6.6%) students were disciplined during the 2014-15 school year of which the most common actions taken were: Out-of-school suspension (54.7%) In-school suspension (30.7%) Expulsion was the least common form of disciplinary action taken (1.2%). When analyzing disciplinary incidents by grade, the school districts’ reported: • 24,616 incidents in elementary schools • 31,282 incidents in middle/junior high schools • 35,651 incidents in senior high schools When focusing on disciplinary actions and Race/Ethnicity, the report shows the following: Black students represented 4.7 percent of the total student population but accounted for 10.0 percent of the students who were disciplined. Hispanic students represented 33.1 percent of the student population but accounted for 41.6 percent of students disciplined. American Indian or Alaska Native students represented 0.7 percent of the student population but accounted for 1.4 percent of students disciplined. Furthermore, 14.1 percent of the Black student population, 12.7 percent of the American Indian or Alaska Native, and 8.3 percent of the Hispanic student population were disciplined, as compared to 5.0 percent of the White student population. This current document aims to display the graphs and tables with the breakdown of disciplinary incidents and actions taken referenced in the report, as well as additional graphs and tables generated
