Processes of Care in Massive Transfusion

Status – One systematic review has been published, and one observational
study is under revision. We have developed an evidence-informed massive
transfusion protocol (MTP), and are now developing and implementing
systems change to accommodate the Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface
Hospital. The knowledge translation strategy will be accompanied by a
program evaluation study.

Evaluation of bleeding and risk of bleeding in critically ill patients

Status – The aim of this program is to a) develop a clinically useful bleeding
assessment tool that adjudicates the incidence and severity of bleeding
episodes among critically ill patients and to b) investigate risk factors for
bleeding in critically ill patients receiving anticoagulants.

Efficacy and safety of fibrinogen concentrates in cardiac surgery
PIs – Christine Federow and Ryan Zarychanski
Status – The first two phases of this research program are a systematic review
and a National survey cardiac anaesthetists. This goal of this program is a
randomized clinical trial of fibrinogen concentrates in cardiac surgical
patients. The systematic review manuscript is currently under preparation;
the survey protocol is under development
