Allan Hirsch has been Chief Deputy Director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment since 2007. In that role, Hirsch is responsible for managing the office’s day-to-day operations, which include implementation of Proposition 65, development of Public Health Goals for drinking water, the issuance of consumption advisories for sport fish, evaluations of air pollutants and pesticides, and advising regional water quality control boards on health risk assessments. Hirsch earlier served as the office’s Deputy Director, External Affairs from 1999 to 2007. Prior to his appointments at OEHHA, Hirsch handled communications functions at the Air Resources Board from 1995 to 1999, and at the Department of Toxic Substances Control from 1989 to 1995. He has bachelor’s degrees in economics and geography from the University of California, Berkeley.
