A branch campus of the University of South Carolina for more than 20 years, Coastal Carolina began granting four-year degrees in 1974. The building campaign includes the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center, the Bryan Information Commons, the Lib Jackson Student Union and three major academic buildings. A new classroom building is currently under construction and four new residence halls are now open. Honors Program 843.349.2170 843.349.4161 The University comprises 102 main buildings on 633 acres, including the Coastal Science Center, the Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies, and the General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University, a public 18-hole golf facility located adjacent to the campus and operated by students in the PGA golf management program. The University also offers courses at the Myrtle Beach, Litchfield and Georgetown education centers. Waties Island, 1,105 acres of pristine barrier island on the Atlantic coast, provides a natural laboratory for extensive study in marine science and wetlands biology. If you want the crowds and excitement of one of the largest resort areas on the East Coast, visit Myrtle Beach. Wherever you choose to spend your out-of-class hours, you’ll enjoy 215 days of sunshine per year and an average annual temperature of 75 degrees. DON’T MISS THESE ATTRACTIONS: Historic Conway is a great place to spend an afternoon. Stroll along the Waccamaw River, browse through one-of-a-kind specialty shops and top off your visit at a café or restaurant. The Grand Strand area features 60 miles of wide, sandy beaches, restaurants, amusement and water parks, live entertainment theaters and exciting nightlife. Golf is a year-round sport on the Grand Strand, and there are more than 100 courses in the Myrtle Beach area. Huntington Beach State Park boasts the best preserved beaches on the Grand Strand. Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and the nation’s first public sculpture garden. The site features the best of American sculpture, as well as exhibits of plants and animals from the Lowcountry. The Market Common is a 114-acre shopping, dining, office and residential complex located amid parks, lakes and a public square. Broadway at the Beach is a 350-acre complex of shops, restaurants, nightlife, hotels and attractions such as Ripley’s Aquarium, the Palace Theatre and WonderWorks. VISIT CAMPUS WEEKDAY TOURS Weekday tours offer our most personalized visit experience. Students and families participate in a guided tour and can meet with an admissions counselor. Tours are offered September through April at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. May through August, tours are offered only at 9:30 a.m. Call ahead for tour availability during the holidays. Counselor meetings are typically scheduled after the tour, and appointments are preferred but not required. Meetings with financial aid counselors, faculty, department heads or coaches must be scheduled in advance. The Office of Admissions and Merit Awards will assist you in arranging meetings with these individuals. DIRECTIONS The main campus in Conway is accessible from U.S. 501 and S.C. 544. FROM THE NORTH: Travel I-95 South into South Carolina. Follow I-95 to Exit 181A. Turn onto S.C. 38. Follow S.C. 38 to the intersection of U.S. 501 South. Turn right onto U.S. 501 and proceed to Conway/Myrtle Beach. Continue on U.S. 501 through Conway, and the University is on the right. Turn right onto University Boulevard (at the stoplight past the flashing marquee CCU sign). Tours begin in the rotunda at the rear of Baxley Hall. VISIT CAMPUS SATURDAY TOUR PROGRAMS Tours are offered on selected Saturdays. Please note that these programs are offered on a spaceavailable basis; attendance is limited, and reservations are highly recommended. Check-in is at 9 a.m., and the tour begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at noon. An admissions counselor will be available after the tour, but no additional faculty and staff will be present. If you do not receive a permit in advance, please ask for one in the Welcome Center when you arrive for your tour. Some spaces on campus are designated for visitors, but they are not available at every building and location. If you are visiting the campus for a Saturday tour or Discovery Day, follow the directional signs on campus to the event and park in that area.
