Learn the basics of acting, teamwork and stage movement. Sing, dance and learn to entertain plus get the opportunity to perform on stage. CSI CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATORS 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YSCIE 157 M01 Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering. You’ll get the opportunity to analyze and practice detective work by using investigative techniques and scientific methods which will allow you to solve mysteries behind the crime scenes. Maybe you can find out who stole the cookies from the cookie jar or how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. Learn clever ways of performing investigative tasks as you have a hands-on view of the science that detectives use every day to solve mysteries. AMUSEMENT PARK PHYSICS 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YSCIE 116 M01 Have you ever wondered how they design and build those crazy rollercoasters and other amusement park rides? Join us and learn about friction, gravity, momentum, velocity, and other effects of force and motion as they relate to theme park rides. We’ll design, construct and test rides that may range from loop-the-loops, marble catchers, ball machines, Ferris wheels, swinging amusement rides and more. This is the way to experiment and build as you learn physics concepts in a fun and activity-based atmosphere. e M u S P a C SIGN LANGUAGE 1 to 5 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YSLAN 102 M01 By the week’s end, campers will be part of a “signing” performance for family and friends at 4 p.m. on Friday. You will explore dinosaurs big and small, fast and slow, ferocious or calm and dinosaurs that came in many different forms. Stomp, chomp and roar like a different dinosaur each day. Make claws that build nests, sharp teeth to catch prey and discover the paleontologist inside you. You will no doubt “dig” this camp. CHEMICAL ACTIONS AND REACTIONS 1 to 5 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YSCIE 272 M01 Get mad with molecules! Join this introductory chemistry camp where you will enjoy performing experiments and making observations. This camp is designed to arouse scientific curiosity through demonstrations, experiments and other hands-on activities. You’ll get to tie-dye a T-shirt, make slippery slime and capture waves in a bottle. Come to this camp ready to act and react as you explore chemical reactions! You’ll decorate your own “apron” and get a chance to create your very own cookbook, filled with sweet dessert recipes from your fellow campers. Your family and friends are invited to join us on Friday at 4 p.m. for a demonstration of your sweet creative skills and to sample tasty treats created by all of the top chefs in your camp. You will have the opportunity to communicate through writing, dance and art. Everyone has talents and immeasurable creativity. During this week of Express Yourself camp, you’ll get a chance to share your talents on stage with a supportive audience. You’ll create masterpieces using candy, cereal, cookies, fruits, vegetables or many other tasty ingredients. You’ll also get a chance to experiment and come up with your very own recipes and take home a book of incredible edible artwork and recipes to whip up and share with your family or friends. You’ll get the opportunity to learn basic acting skills while working as a team to help creative stories come to life. Exercising your natural creativity through movement, games, improvisation and vocal work, you’ll portray favorite storybook characters (as well as new favorite characters) while gaining confidence and presence on stage. Come to this camp ready to create your very own protagonist (major character) and bring your adventures to life. THINK YOU CAN DANCE? 1 to 5 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YFITN 424 M01 Do you think you can dance? You will be introduced to movement and self-expression through dance styles such as jazz, modern and hip-hop. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water and be ready to show that you’ve got all the right moves. JULY 18-22, 2016 MARTIAL ARTS CAMP 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $75 AGES 8-10 ONLY YFITN 103 M01 This action-packed and energy-filled camp will teach some of the techniques of karate-do. This will include appropriate etiquette used in a dojo (martial arts school). You will focus on your body mechanics and the strong connection between body and mind. Campers will boost their self-confidence and gain a finetuned ability to face challenges with composure, courage and energy. We’ll talk about how to prevent bullying and role play to better equip ourselves with the self-confidence and courage it takes to overcome the challenges and threats of bullying. ORIGAMI/ART OF FOLDING PAPER 1 to 5 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YART 140 M01 You asked for it! Let’s get together and put our fingertips to work. Fold and create creations like cranes, jumping frogs, sitting cats and more. You can use these amazing folded creations to gift wrap and enhance birthday and holiday gifts, or keep them for display to show everyone your great talents. For the geometry lover, we will make boxes, cubes and an origami gyroscope. FABULOUS FUN FIESTA 1 to 5 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YSPAN 100 M01 Let’s come together and learn about Latin American cultures as well as Spanish commands, daily expressions, vocabulary and Latin cooking. You’ll get the chance to make a piñata, learn the three basic steps to making salsa, and even form your own Latin band with congas and bongos. On Friday, we’ll celebrate with a Fiesta Day complete with music, dance, food and more. Campers will expand their imaginations and explore the exciting world of clay through a wide variety of projects. You’ll learn hand-building skills and decorative techniques while creating works made of modeling clay, air-drying clay and even trying your hand at making your own edible clay. Cereal boxes become personalized one-ofa-kind journals, broken crayons and baby food jars become colorful rainbow candles or a perfect place to store your jewelry. Make decorative paper bowls and plates from junk mail and old magazines. Turn your glass jars into beautiful stained glass vases to hold your treasure. Spend the week creating one-of-a-kind art projects made from recyclable, reusable household materials and/ or items found in nature. Please bring empty cereal boxes, a clean/ dry glass jar with the label removed, and a clean glass baby food jar to camp. PIRATES OF THE HIGH SEAS CAMP 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $75 AGES 6-10 YPERS 151 M01 Avast, me hearties and listen up, landlubbers, it is time to shiver ye timbers, buckle your swashes and set sail to frolic in the briny deep. Buccaneers, we’ll walk the plank to plunder together to find a treasure chest full of fun and games. Put a message in a bottle, decorate an eye patch, try your hand (or hook) at sand art, speak fluent pirate, possibly learn to survive a desert island shipwreck and practice knot-craft so you can lash down your treasure. Friday you will become a Captain Hook, Anne Bonny or Mary Read look-alike when you enter me pirate camp. Payment is required to reserve any space or for a camp. Camp sizes are limited; early registration is advised. SNACKS: Students are encouraged to bring a snack and drink from home daily for each camp they are attending. Vending machines are available on site. BY MAIL: Select the camps you want to attend and mail the completed registration form with payment to Coastal Carolina University, Office of Executive Development and Continuing Education, 900 79th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. LATE PICKUP FEE: A late charge of $5 will be applied for each five (5) minutes after 5 p.m. This charge is due upon arrival. IN PERSON: Stop by the Myrtle Beach Education Center at 900 79th Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach, with registration information and payment. On-site registration is accepted Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CHECK IN: To expedite the weekly check-in process the first day of camp, please visit our website at coastal.edu/outreach and complete all necessary forms prior to check in, and be sure to bring them with you. BY TELEPHONE: Call 843-349-2767, 843-349-2025 or 843-349-6584 Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. with credit card information. FEES: Half-day camps are $75. Full-day camps are $150 per class. SERVICE FEE: A service fee of 2.7 percent will be applied by official payment on all debit and credit card payments when payment is received over the phone, online or via mail. No service fee applies if paid in person. REFUNDS: Refunds will be made if withdrawal from a class is received in writing at least three working days prior to the start of the class. Failure to attend a class without notification or cancellation will not entitle a refund. In the event that a camp is canceled by the Office of Executive Development and Continuing Education, a full refund will be made to the participants. Refunds take approximately two weeks to process. LUNCH: If a child is registered for both morning and afternoon camps, he/she needs to bring a bag lunch and drink. Adult supervision is provided during the lunch period.
