1. Co- Principal Investigator, On becoming a bilingual teacher: Preparing preservice
Latina/o teachers to teach English language learners in the US/Mexico border. Project in
collaboration with Dr. Sandra Musanti. Data collection began in the Spring 2012 and will
continue until Fall 2013. A preliminary data analysis is being conducted.
2. Principal Investigator, Graduate Students’ Perceptions of Online Instruction. Data
collection and preliminary analysis completed.
3. Co-Principal Investigator, Coaching and Cultural / Linguistic Identities. Project in
collaboration with Drs. Renee Rubin and Michelle Abrego. Data collection and analysis
completed. Two manuscripts accepted for publication, one in Reading Horizons, and the
second one in What’s Hot in Literacy for 2012.
4. Principal Investigator, Service Learning and Second Language Instruction. Preliminary
data analysis completed. Manuscript submitted to GiST Journal. Follow-up study
conducted in the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters: Service Learning and Preservice Bilingual / ESL Teachers. Preliminary data analysis completed. Manuscript in
preparation for The Texas Forum of Teacher Education.
5. Co-Principal Investigator, Hispanic Pre-Service Teachers Engage ESL Learners in
Literature with Cooperative Learning and Drama. Project in collaboration with Drs.
Bobbette Morgan and Graciela Rosenberg. Data collection completed. Data analysis in
progress.
6. Completed research project on the implementation of the Creative Reading Method to
facilitate the development of critical literacy in English language learners. Manuscript
under review in the Journal of Transformative Education.
7. Completed research project on the use of culturally relevant literature in the teaching of
English as a Second Language.
