Transfer Guide -­‐ Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Transfer Process All transfer students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology should follow the admission procedures located at www.stcloudstate.edu/transfer to be admitted to St. Cloud State. A student must first be accepted to St. Cloud State and then may apply to the Psychology major after meeting the major’s admission requirements. Requirements for Admission to the Psychology Major: • Completion of at least four Psychology courses • Cumulative 2.5 GPA at SCSU o Transfer students certain of majoring in Psychology may request direct admission based on transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher The following courses transfer from St. Paul College to St. Cloud State:
SPC Course SCSU Course PSYC 1710 General Psychology PSY 115 Intro to Psychology PSYC 1720 Psychology Throughout the Lifespan PSY 240 Developmental Psychology PSYC 1760 Social Psychology PSY 270 Social Psychology *Students that enroll in additional SPC Psychology electives may graduate with over 120 credits. *The SCSU Psychology Department will transfer in one additional SPC Psychology course as an elective in the major. The following courses are suggested for particular MnTC Goals: SPC Course SCSU Course Goal 1: ENGL 1712 Composition II ENGL 191 Intro to Rhetorical & Analytical Writing Goal 1: SPCH 1700 Intro to Speech Communications CMST 192 Intro to Communication Studies Goal 3: BIOL 1730 Human Body Systems BIOL 103 Human Biology *Goal 4: MATH 1710 Liberal Arts Math OR MATH 1730 College Algebra MATH 193 Mathematical Thinking MATH 112 College Algebra *All MATH courses listed above are suitable prerequisites for the PSY 200/201 (Statistics/lab) requirement at SCSU. If possible, take one of these courses prior to transferring to SCSU. Otherwise, students will be advised to take SCSU’s MATH/STAT 193 to meet the prerequisite. IMPORTANT: If you delay taking the PSY 200/201 requirement, you will not be able to take subsequent required courses in the major and your graduation may be delayed. It is recommended that students take these courses as a part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) or Associate in Arts (AA) degree. • If a student completes a Goal within the MnTC, the same Goal will be completed at St. Cloud State once transferred. Additional Requirements to Consider when Degree Planning • Completion of 10 Goals (40 credits) in the MnTC (known as the Liberal Education Program at St. Cloud State) • Psychology majors are required to have a second major, minor or one year of a foreign language • Minimum Psychology major GPA of 2.5 and minimum of 15 Psychology credits in residence are required to graduate • 40 upper-­‐division credits (300-­‐400 level coursework) are required to graduate Please refer to www.transferology.com for up-­‐to-­‐date information on course equivalencies. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
