The three components of reimbursement, coverage, coding and payment are presented. The principles of economic evaluations for medical techology and their impact on reimbursement decisions are discussed. Learning Objectives: Students will be generally knowledgeable and know how to access details on the following. • • • • • • The three components of reimbursement: coverage, coding and payment. The criteria necessary to obtain positive coverage decisions. Basics of the types of payment methodologies, Development of cost effectiveness analyses based on primary data or literature on economic analyses of medical techologies. How payers use economic analyses in coverage and reimbursement decisions. The techical and professional presentation of information for reimbursement decisions.
