Addendum Exhibit 3.2.a Required Observation and Field Experience Courses The University of Texas at Brownsville EDCI 1301 Introduction to the Teaching Profession (add link to course syllabus) EDFR 2301 Sociocultural Context of Schooling EDCI 3330 Designing Instruction and Assessment EDCI 1301 Introduction to the Teaching Profession Field-based Assignment Report and Reflection: A minimum of 12 hours of field experience is required for this course. You will need to fill out the Field Placement Procedure Form, and send this back to me no later than January 24th. Placement arrangements will then be made. Students need to immediately seek and obtain clearance from the school district you have opted to conduct your field experience hours. When reporting to your assigned school, go prepared with the Letter to the school administrator, which I have provided for you on blackboard. During your placement, you will observe a teacher, using the observation form provided to you as well as the student documentation of field hours used to secure the teacher’s signature. For this assignment you will write a report that includes the following parts: 1. Cover page: A page with the days and times you visited the school signed by the teacher you observed. 2. Part 1: Description of contextual factors impacting learning: (adapted from TWS): including (minimum 1 page), a- Community, district, and school factors. Address geographic location, community and school population, socio-economic profile and race/ethnicity. You might also address such things as stability of community, political climate, community support for education, and other environmental factors. b- Classroom factors. Address physical features, availability of technology equipment and resources, and the extent of parental involvement. You might also discuss other relevant factors such as classroom rules and routines, grouping patterns, scheduling, and classroom arrangement. Student characteristics. Describe the students in the class that you observed. Include factors such as age, gender, race/ethnicity, special needs, achievement/developmental levels, culture, language, interests, learning styles/modalities or students’ skill levels that you observed. Part 2. Descriptions of observations: Provide a detailed description of your observations using the observation form provided to you for note taking purposes. Be sure to indicate what you gained from each observation experience. What was the lesson on and how did the students react during the lesson? Where they all well connected? Did the teacher have to stop to go over a concept? What was the overall classroom management in this setting? What did you see that maybe you would do differently? Part 3: Final Reflection: A final reflection on your experience, as to what you gained from these observations as you work towards the idea of becoming a teacher.
