NIGHTHAWK COACHING STAFF
Coach Vance Sather enters his fourth season guiding the Nighthawk
girls basketball program. This will be his fifteenth season coaching basketball previously serving as a head coach at Walla Walla College (WA)
and Southwestern Adventist University (TX) and an assistant at Pierce
College(WA) and Western New Mexico University (NM). Coach Sather
earned a B.S. from Walla Walla College and a M.S. in Sport Psychology
from the University of Idaho. He works for the MVHS math department
teaching freshman algebra classes.
Coach Scott Richards has coached girls basketball at MVHS for six
seasons During the off-season he also contributes to the strength and
conditioning program. Coach Richards graduated with a B.S. from
UCSD and received his teaching credential from Cal State San Marcos.
While attending high school and parts of college he played baseball,
track and field, and of course basketball. He has taught at Murrieta Valley High School for six years; teaching Biology, Life Science, and Marine Biology. He is the proud father of a future Nighthawk, Haylee.
Coach Robert Gergins has coached high school basketball for sixteen
years, both at the freshman and JV levels at MVHS. He graduated from
Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. Degree in Business Marketing
and earned his teaching credential and Masters Degree from Chapman
University. He has been in the MVUSD for 9 years, and currently
teaches Algebra II and Pre-Calculus at MVHS. He and his wife Adrienne have been married for 23 years. They have four children, Grant,
Garrett, Alyssa and Ashlyn.
Coach Leonard Garcia has been coaching basketball for better than 16
years. He has coached in youth programs and at the high school level.
Coach Garcia coached boys varsity at Inland Christian from 1989 to 1996
and was named Coach Of the Year in 1990 & 1991. During the day
coach Garcia manages an insurance operator with the Horace Mann Insurance Companies which caters to the educational community. Coach
Garcia and his wife of 23 years live in Murrieta with their children
Daniel, Ryan and Rachel.
Coach Scott Fields has been coaching basketball for two seasons at Murrieta Valley High School. Last season he was an Assistant Coach on the
Girls Freshmen team and is currently an Assistant Coach with the Junior
Varsity team. He has been a resident of Murrieta since 1989, attending
Rail Ranch, Shivela Middle School, and MVHS. While attending
MVHS he participated in two seasons in the boy's basketball program, one
year working for the school newspaper (The Talon), and two years in the
dance program. Coach Scott and his wife Alanna, a Special Education
teacher at MVHS, have been married five years and both are graduates of
MVHS (Class of 1997).
