Civil Rights Unit Speech Assignment
Civil Rights Unit Speech Assignment In lieu of a test for this unit, you have been assigned a performance project. You will be required to give an oral presentation, specifically a speech, poetic reading, or song, on an area of Civil Rights. The topic can be of your choosing, but remember that your focus should be on Civil Rights. The easiest way to find a topic is to think of the major Civil Rights movements (African American, Latino, Women’s Liberation, Gay Rights, Asian-Americans, etc…) and begin drafting a speech in support of one of those groups. The parameters for these presentations are as follows: 1. Length: No less than 3 minutes but no greater than 3 and a half. 2. Format: Speeches, songs, poetic readings, raps, or any other form of oral presentation (excluding powerpoints and interpretive dances). 3. Scale: As this will serve as the Unit exam, it will be worth 100 points and tests are worth 40% of your grade. 4. Rubric: The content of your speech will factor in the most, followed by your delivery (professionalism), your interaction with the class (audience engagement), and whether or not you stayed within the time constraints (length). a. Content (50 points) b. Professionalism (20 points) c. Audience engagement (15 points) d. Length (15 points).
