OPEN ARCHITECTURE PROCESSOR
ANY SYSTEM, ANY PLATFORM, ANY OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENT.
A POWERFUL PROCESSOR FOR MANY MISSIONS
DESIGNED FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW
Lockheed Martin’s Open Architecture Processor (OAP) controls and processes
information from multiple sensors and self-defense systems, and drives a variety of
information displays.
OAP supports application architectures for degraded visual environments, pilotage,
situation awareness, active protection, reconnaissance, fire control, targeting and
hostile fire. A unique feature set addresses a broad range of mission needs:
OAP uses widely supported standard interfaces such that maintainers can add,
upgrade and swap out sensor and display system components as required. Its
open architecture supports a modular framework that enables interchangeable
systems and replaces multiple proprietary processors that compete for a platform’s
limited space, weight and power. It is designed for use on ground, air and
maritime platforms as well as space-based applications. Current prototype units
offer flexibility to support multiple sensor and display systems and to easily and
affordably upgrade and integrate emerging self-defense technology as it becomes
available.
•Open Architecture – Based on COTS embedded processing modules, enables
multiple applications
•Versatility – Uses a unique backplane that mitigates interoperability issues and
reduces chassis size/weight/cost
•Scalability – Supports digital signal processing for image and video management,
from megaflops to teraflops
•Extensibility – Accommodates the fast rate of change in commercial processor
technology
•Standard Operating Systems – Supports software portability and diverse
applications
OAP technology is the basis for the Research, Development and Engineering
Command (RDECOM) Modular Active Protection Systems (MAPS) Prototype
Controller (PC) developed under a US Army Tank Automotive Research,
Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) contract. PC processor units and
software are being developed to enable rapid, affordable integration of selfdefense technologies that can protect the Army’s advantage on the battlefield.
•Safety – Complies with safety standards
•Security – Incorporates anti-tamper and information assurance design features
•Durability – Uses 3µ OpenVPX chassis that is easier to cool, more rigid and
compact
•Maintainability – Uses open architecture protocols, has been designed for long
program life cycles
