Partnering for Availability Partnering for Availability Lt Col M.W.C. Beeslaar South African Air Force +27 12 672 4764 [email protected] Mr. A van Oldenmark Denel Aviation +27 11 927 4446 [email protected] Aim • The aim is to inform all members present on the current status and the SAAF expectations of the C-130 B-model fleet. Scope • History and Current Fleet Status • Expectations • Observations and Recommendations History and Current Fleet Status • Seven B-models delivered 1962/3 • Maintained iaw USAF T.O. System • Centre Wing replacement and Outer Wing upgrade from late 1960’s to early 1970’s iaw Lockheed Martin SB’s • Engines upgraded from T56-A-7 to T56-A-15LFE • Small avionics upgrade done within the SAAF in the early 1980’s History and Current Fleet Status (cont’d) • Two ex-USAF and three ex-Navy C-130’s acquired through Excess Defense Articles program • Full Avionic Upgrade from late 1990’s to 2010 done on nine aircraft • Multi-disk brakes fitted in 2009 • Fleet operates with GTC85-71A, original ECS and a mixture of Stainless Steel and Inconel Bleed Air Ducts Current Fleet Expectation • Requirement: Operate the B-model fleet until 2020! • Current reality: Fleet will stay in service until a replacement is acquired? Observations and Recommendations • Continued Airworthiness - Essential ─ Obsolescence and supportability to be addressed • Upgrades to attain 2020 - Essential ─ APU, Propulsion e.g. TD Amp ─ Air conditioning / pressurization Etc. • Cost of ownership – Defined and Essential ─ Maintenance, facilities and support contracts Partnering for Availability An Overview Mr. A van Oldenmark Denel Aviation +27 11 927 4446 [email protected] Partnering for Availability • • • • • • Denel Background Process Implementation Results Benefits Denel Group Portfolio Denel Group Defence Security Denel Integrated System Solutions Denel Aviation & DPS Aerostructures Mechem Denel Technical Academy Denel Land Systems Turbomeca Africa Certification & Training Denel Aerostructures Denel Dynamics UAV’s PMP Denel Dynamics Missiles OTB Carl Zeiss Optronics Rheinmetall Denel Munition www.denel.co.za Denel Aviation Facilities OR Tambo International Airport Johannesburg Accredited MRO supplier.
